Blue is a 160.6-metre custom motor yacht built by Lürssen and delivered in 2022. She is one of the largest private yachts in the world and represents a modern generation of giga yacht design, combining vast scale with contemporary environmental and efficiency-focused engineering.
The yacht was designed inside and out by Terence Disdale Design, giving her a calm, balanced and elegant profile. Her exterior uses long horizontal lines, a dark hull, broad decks and a strong but restrained superstructure. Despite her extraordinary size, Blue has a controlled and refined appearance rather than an aggressive one.
Lürssen has described efficiency and environmental considerations as key drivers in Blue’s technical development. The yacht uses a diesel-electric hybrid propulsion concept developed by Lürssen’s engineering team, reflecting the increasing emphasis on reduced emissions, flexible power management and more efficient large-yacht operation.
Publicly listed specifications describe Blue as having accommodation for up to 48 guests in 40 staterooms, with a crew of around 80. Her volume, beam and multiple decks allow for extensive private spaces, guest lounges, wellness areas, exterior entertaining decks and large operational zones suitable for long-distance cruising.
Detailed interior information remains limited, as is common with very large private yachts, but Terence Disdale’s involvement suggests a traditional, fresh and comfortable interior rather than an overtly showy style. The yacht’s guest spaces are likely arranged around privacy, formal hospitality and relaxed family use.
Blue is significant as one of the largest Lürssen yachts of the 2020s and as an example of how the giga yacht sector is incorporating more advanced power systems and efficiency-focused engineering. She combines the scale of a state-of-the-art private yacht with a more responsible technical brief than earlier generations of very large motor yachts.
