Heesen is delighted to announce that on Saturday, 14 March, YN 21150 Project Sophia , a 50-metre all-aluminium yacht, was launched at the facility in Oss. Project Sophia brings a distinctive character to the 50‑metre segment, combining high-speed capability with the exceptionally shallow draft needed to reach some of the world’s most coveted anchorages. Defined by a formidable 23-knot maximum speed and a draft of just 2.15 metres—the benchmark depth for unrestricted cruising in the Bahamas—this all-aluminium platform is engineered for swift passages and the freedom to explore territories usually reserved for much smaller yachts.

Heesen’s naval architects achieved this balance through a refined hard-chine hull with recessed propeller tunnels. Beyond enabling shallow-water navigation; this profile delivers a l 12% gain in hull efficiency, setting a notably high-performance standard within the 50-metre class. At 499 GT and fully IMO Tier III-compliant, Sophia stands as a definitive example of Northern European craftsmanship and technical ambition.

Peter van der Zanden, Director Design & Development and Engineering, commented: “At Heesen, we believe that smart naval architecture underpins a yacht’s true value. With Project Sophia , our engineers have improved hull efficiency by 12%. This is more than a technical metric; it translates directly into lower fuel consumption and a quieter, more enjoyable experience at sea. The result is a highly optimised yacht that reflects our Dutch heritage of building for performance.”
