The Italian Sea Group: SY Katana wins Judges’ Special Awards at the World Superyacht Awards Venice, May 4, 2026 – The Italian Sea Group announces that Perini Navi’s SY Katana has won the Judges’ Special Awards at the World Superyacht Awards, organized by Boat.
May 4, 2026 Set within the Arsenale of Venice, a symbol of Italian shipbuilding tradition, an historic crossroads between East and West, and a unique synthesis of beauty, SY Katana confirms her status as a benchmark in the world of sailing yachts. A refined synthesis of advanced engineering and contemporary design language, in continuity with the Perini Navi heritage, the 60-metre ketch stands out for her taut and elegant exterior proportions.
Her white hull recalls the brand’s earliest sailing yachts, reaffirming its identity. This recognition follows the “Sailing Yacht – Best Interior” award received last February at the Kitzbühel Superyacht Design Festival, further confirming the design excellence and meticulous execution of the interiors by Rémi Tessier.
Brushed cedar establishes a consistent material foundation, while teak, finished naturally, conveys a calibrated tactile quality, with surfaces offering both perceptual softness and visual depth. The interiors are developed around a principle of material continuity and proportional control. Brushed cedar and teak run throughout the yacht, creating visual and tactile coherence between spaces, while leather finishes define areas of contact.
Sliding doors in frosted glass with a metallic weave, together with palladium leaf ceilings featuring wooden inserts, modulate light and enhance a sense of depth and layering. Lightweight structures, metal handrails, and floating steps engage in dialogue with the wood essences, while painted aluminum frames and details introduce a contemporary accent, maintaining an overall balance between materiality, light, and proportion.
“The recognition received at the Superyacht Design Festival highlights S/Y Katana’s ability to integrate interior design, naval architecture, and technology. Every design choice stems from the experience of sailing and from a rigorous approach to space, materials, and proportions. The project restores centrality to the relationship with the sea, interpreted with discipline and absolute sensitivity.
