Yachting and arrival

Hydra Town is the main arrival point and the harbour places guests immediately in the historic centre. Larger yachts may need to anchor outside the most constrained harbour area and use tenders, depending on yacht dimensions, traffic and instructions from local authorities.

International guest movements are normally organised through Athens International Airport and a mainland transfer before the final sea leg. This makes Hydra easy to combine with an Athens Riviera embarkation or a wider Saronic Gulf cruise.

Why yachts visit

Hydra combines a highly walkable waterfront, historic mansions, galleries, restaurants and a strong seafaring identity. The absence of normal road traffic gives shore visits a very different character from larger Mediterranean resort islands.

Beyond Hydra Town, the island has coves and swimming areas suited to tender exploration when conditions allow. Its short cruising distances to neighbouring Saronic destinations also make it useful for flexible itineraries.

Operational considerations

The harbour can become congested and space is limited, particularly during busy periods. Captains should confirm current anchoring, mooring, tender and port requirements directly with the relevant local authority before arrival.

Because Hydra is not a major technical-service base, provisioning, engineering support and larger crew movements are generally easier to arrange from the Athens–Piraeus area. Hydra is therefore best treated as a cruising destination rather than an industry hub.
