BMW's updated 7 Series appears within A.A.Murakami's mist-and-light installation at Contemporary Istanbul, joining luxury-car design with ephemeral art.
A flagship sedan enters an art installation
BMW is showing its new 7 Series alongside SYMBIOSIS, an immersive installation by A.A.Murakami, at Contemporary Istanbul. The exhibition opened for a VIP preview on 23 September 2026, with public days from 24 to 27 September at Tersane Istanbul.
The presentation brings the vehicle into an artwork shaped by light, mist, bubbles and airflow rather than treating it solely as a static motor-show display. The official image documents the actual Istanbul collaboration.
Technology that changes in the moment
Artists Azusa Murakami and Alexander Groves work across Tokyo and London and describe their approach as Ephemeral Tech. Engineered sculptural forms interact with physical processes such as temperature, gravity and changing air movement, producing an installation that is not identical from one moment to the next.
BMW connects that theme with its Symbiotic Drive concept, intended to coordinate driver input and assistance functions. The artistic interpretation is a conceptual parallel, not an independent test of how the car performs on the road.
A new expression of the 7 Series
The flagship sedan's update incorporates Neue Klasse technologies, including BMW Panoramic iDrive and a revised passenger-display experience. BMW highlights the illuminated kidney grille, crystal headlights and premium cabin materials within a design intended to combine passenger comfort with digital controls.
Its specification depends on market and configured model, and the artwork does not establish the availability of every feature in every vehicle. For collectors and design-minded visitors, the significance is the encounter between a production luxury sedan and an evolving visual installation.
Why Istanbul is part of the story
Contemporary Istanbul provides a setting for work that moves between art, engineering and material experimentation, with BMW represented by Borusan Otomotiv in Türkiye. The exhibition follows an earlier appearance of SYMBIOSIS at Art Basel, giving a wider audience the chance to see the work.
