Textron Aviation has delivered the 500th Cessna Citation CJ4 as the new CJ4 Gen3 progresses toward certification with next-generation cockpit technology.
Textron Aviation has reached a major private-aviation milestone with delivery of the 500th Cessna Citation CJ4 series business jet. The milestone aircraft, a Citation CJ4 Gen2, was delivered to a customer in the Philippines as the manufacturer prepares the next-generation CJ4 Gen3 for certification.
Five hundred deliveries for the Citation CJ4
The CJ4 has spent more than a decade at the upper end of Cessna’s light-jet range, combining the accessibility of a single-pilot aircraft with greater cabin capacity and performance than smaller Citation models. Textron Aviation says the platform is used by owner-operators and fleet customers around the world for business travel as well as specialised missions.
Reaching 500 deliveries gives the CJ4 a significant installed base in a segment where buyers place considerable value on operating flexibility, support networks and predictable ownership. The latest delivery to the Philippines also underlines the international reach of a model originally developed around the requirements of private and corporate aviation.
The CJ4 Gen3 moves toward certification
Textron Aviation is already preparing the next stage of the programme, with the Citation CJ4 Gen3 expected to achieve Federal Aviation Administration certification during 2026. The company says two flight-test aircraft have now accumulated more than 880 hours as the programme progresses toward entry into service.
The Gen3 introduces Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics and Garmin Emergency Autoland, extending technologies increasingly associated with a new generation of owner-flown business aircraft. The changes are intended to reduce pilot workload while bringing more advanced automation into an aircraft that remains certificated for single-pilot operation.
Range and cabin flexibility
Textron lists a maximum range of 2,165 nautical miles for the CJ4 Gen3, together with seating for as many as 11 occupants and a maximum payload of 2,200 pounds. Its 1,040-pound baggage capacity also reflects the practical requirements of passengers using a light jet for multi-city business travel or private trips with substantial luggage.
Those figures place the aircraft in an interesting part of the private-aviation market, where owners can obtain considerably more capability than an entry-level jet without moving into the operating scale of a large-cabin aircraft. For many buyers, that balance between range, cabin utility and the ability to operate with a single pilot is central to the appeal of the CJ4 concept.
A milestone as private aviation evolves
The 500th delivery arrives while manufacturers are putting increasing emphasis on cockpit automation, cabin usability and operational flexibility rather than relying on speed and range alone. Textron’s transition from CJ4 Gen2 to CJ4 Gen3 illustrates how established business-jet platforms are being updated with technology that can materially change the ownership and flying experience.
