Conrad Athens The Ilisian has opened in the transformed former Hilton Athens, creating a new urban resort in the Greek capital.
A familiar Athenian landmark begins a new chapter
Conrad Athens The Ilisian has opened inside the former Hilton Athens after a major redevelopment. The project retains the building’s cultural significance while turning it into a contemporary urban resort and mixed-use destination.
The hotel contains 278 rooms and suites, including large top-end accommodation designed for longer luxury stays. Restaurants, residences and a private members’ club sit within the wider Ilisian development.
Art remains part of the building’s identity
The original 620-square-metre sculpted marble façade by Greek artist Yannis Moralis has been preserved as a defining architectural feature. New lighting by Eleftheria Deko gives the relief a different presence after dark.
That decision keeps the property connected with a piece of modern Athenian cultural history rather than replacing it with a completely new façade. The hotel becomes partly an exercise in adaptive reuse and urban memory.
Athens works naturally as a yacht gateway
Many Eastern Mediterranean yacht itineraries begin or end around Athens and Piraeus. A high-level city hotel therefore matters as much to yacht travel as an island resort, particularly for owners meeting guests or spending time ashore before embarkation.
The Ilisian’s pool, wellness programme and central location allow visitors to shift gradually between city and cruising life. It gives the capital a stronger luxury base for travellers moving through the Greek yachting season.
