Belmond is preparing to reveal a completely rebuilt all-suite Pool Wing at Copacabana Palace, adding five floors of wellness and a renewed poolside social scene.
Copacabana Palace is preparing one of its biggest changes in decades, with Belmond due to reveal a completely reworked Pool Wing in November 2026 after a 19-month renovation. The 1948 wing returns as an all-suite address while the famous pool, surrounding restaurants and wellness offer are being recast for longer, more residential stays in Rio.
Sixty-eight suites reshape the historic wing
The hotel will have 208 rooms and suites when the project is complete, including 68 suites in the Pool Wing and 140 rooms and suites in the main building. Every Pool Wing suite has a private balcony, with most looking toward either the pool or Copacabana Beach, and several categories are intended for families and longer stays.
Brazilian craft becomes part of the architecture
Architect Ivan Rezende has used native woods, Brazilian stone, modernist furniture and work by local artisans throughout the interiors. Timber reclaimed from an Amazon riverbed appears in marquetry, while rugs reproduce satellite views of the Juruá River and Acre forest canopy, giving the redesign a distinctly Brazilian material identity.
Five floors are devoted to wellness
The new programme dedicates one floor to the spa, another to fitness and health, a third to Pilates and movement, a fourth to ice baths, infrared sauna and steam rooms, and a fifth to grooming and beauty. The scale makes wellness a major part of the renewed hotel rather than an amenity attached to the side of the pool experience.
The pool remains Rio's social stage
Belmond is also resurfacing the historic pool and adding Bar do Copa, a new signature bar, together with a reimagined contemporary Italian restaurant and a boutique devoted to Brazilian craftsmanship. Pool Wing suites will start from £905 per night plus taxes, positioning the renewed wing as a destination for guests who want to stay inside the hotel's social world rather than simply visit it.
