HALCYON’s 2026 rebuild connects a redesigned stern and refurbished accommodation to an extensive technical renewal of the 46.9m yacht.
The 46.9-metre HALCYON illustrates what it takes to make an established private yacht feel contemporary without erasing her origins. Launched by Feadship in 2001 as Northern Light, she underwent fourteen months of structural, technical and interior work during a major 2025–26 refit at Kaag.
A more useful route to the sea
The refit reshaped the stern with a new staircase linking the main deck and swim platform. It is a practical change for guests moving between dining, lounging and the waterside area, making circulation part of the upgrade rather than leaving the improvement purely cosmetic.
Feadship also repainted the hull and superstructure, adapted the mast and renewed exterior elements. Those details change both the yacht’s appearance and the way the guest spaces connect when a voyage pauses at anchor.
Accommodation refreshed from within
Cabins and crew areas were refurbished, marble was restored, new blinds installed and interior finishes renewed. The work retained the yacht’s established character while addressing the wear and practical expectations that develop after many seasons at sea.
Guest comfort depends on equipment as much as decoration: the climate-control system was replaced, including chillers, fresh-air equipment and fan coils. A room can look preserved while the systems making it pleasant are quite new.
An extensive technical programme
The project also overhauled main engines and gearboxes, installed two new generators and renewed power-management, monitoring and water systems. Feadship described the scope as far closer to a modified new build than a light seasonal refresh.
These measures are not visible in every interior photo, but they are important to the experience of travelling and staying aboard. Crew can only maintain a seamless guest programme when the underlying engineering is reliable.
The original yacht remains identifiable
HALCYON’s 2001 launch name was Northern Light; the 2026 transformation did not create a separate vessel with a new hull identity. Feadship’s dated June report described commissioning ahead of the planned July redelivery, without establishing a new September transaction.
The hero is the yard’s official refit image of HALCYON, not a photograph of an unrelated classic Feadship. This article examines the consequences for private living, separate from the earlier technical news announcement.
