IWC Gives Its Mercedes F1 Chronograph a Singapore-Inspired Purple Dial

A team watch with a local colour story

IWC Schaffhausen has unveiled a purple-dial version of its Pilot's Watch Chronograph 41 for the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula One team. Announced on 27 August 2026 ahead of the Singapore Grand Prix, the watch uses a deep purple shade inspired by the Vanda Miss Joaquim orchid, Singapore's national flower.

The launch marks the fourth official team watch since the partnership began producing such pieces in 2022. It extends IWC's relationship with the team as engineering partner rather than replacing the established Pilot's Watch collection.

Purple and green on a titanium case

Reference IW388121 is built around a 41mm Grade 5 titanium case with a brushed surface and a matching purple rubber strap. Team-green accents appear on the numerals and indices, while luminescent hands contrast with the saturated dial.

The strap uses IWC's EasX-CHANGE system so it can be changed without specialist tools. Those decisions bring the team's visual identity into a wearable mechanical watch rather than only adding a logo to a standard reference.

The movement beneath the colours

IWC's manufacture calibre 69385 powers the chronograph, with a column-wheel construction, a day-date display and a stated 46-hour power reserve. A sapphire display back reveals the movement's decorative finishing, while the familiar elapsed-minute counter sits at 12 o'clock.

The case material and movement are distinct specifications that should be checked against the exact reference. The model is associated with the racing team, but its own operation is purely mechanical and does not take data from the race car.

The official campaign includes drivers George Russell and Kimi Antonelli wearing the new chronograph, connecting it with the team's 2026 season. IWC also introduced the piece alongside an updated teamwear collection from adidas.
