Lando Norris Wins Final Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort

Lando Norris has won the 2026 Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort, taking victory from Kimi Antonelli and George Russell in a race interrupted by an early red flag. The McLaren driver started from pole, lost the lead after the restart and then fought back to claim his second consecutive Grand Prix win.

Zandvoort’s finale turns dramatic

The final Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort began on a damp track, with changing conditions adding uncertainty before the start. Norris initially held the lead, while Antonelli moved ahead of Russell into second as the field settled into the opening lap.

The race was then stopped when home favourite Max Verstappen lost the rear of his Red Bull and hit the wall, scattering debris across the circuit. Verstappen reported that he was okay, but his retirement brought an abrupt end to his final Dutch Grand Prix appearance at the venue.

Antonelli leads before Norris closes in

At the standing restart Antonelli made the stronger getaway and swept past Norris for the lead, with the Mercedes driver building an advantage as the race developed. Norris remained within reach, however, and the gap tightened again as the McLaren found stronger pace later in the stint.

By the closing third of the race Norris had caught Antonelli and completed the pass into Turn 1, before also clearing Lewis Hamilton as the Ferrari ran out of sequence at the front. A later Virtual Safety Car prompted Antonelli to stop for soft tyres, while Norris stayed out and retained control of the race.

Mercedes completes the podium

Mercedes eventually switched its cars to release Antonelli into second place, while Russell held off Hamilton to secure third. Norris crossed the line 11.536 seconds ahead of Antonelli, with Russell completing the podium ahead of Hamilton, Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri.

The victory followed Norris’s success in Hungary and strengthened the reigning World Champion’s momentum during the second half of the season. Formula 1’s official report described the result as his second consecutive win, while Antonelli retained the championship lead after finishing runner-up.

A final race beside the North Sea

Zandvoort’s 2026 event marked the final scheduled Dutch Grand Prix at the circuit, closing the latest chapter of a race that returned to Formula 1 in 2021. The narrow, banked track among the coastal dunes had become one of the championship’s most distinctive modern venues, combining an old-school layout with an unusually intense atmosphere.
