Mercedes-AMG CLE 646 Turns the Mythos Series Into a 30-Car Track Weapon

Mercedes-AMG has taken the CLE far beyond the normal idea of a special edition with the CLE 646 Spezialanfertigung, the second model in the highly restricted Mythos Series. Only 30 road-legal examples will be built, and Mercedes-AMG says every one was sold before the car's world premiere.

646PS goes only to the rear wheels

The reworked 4.0-litre V8 biturbo produces 646PS and 850Nm, with power sent exclusively to the rear axle instead of through the donor car's 4MATIC+ system. The change forms part of a wider attempt to make the car feel deliberately more direct and mechanical rather than simply more powerful.

AMG removed around 170 kilograms

Carbon body components, polycarbonate glazing, removal of the rear seats and reduced insulation and comfort equipment help cut roughly 170kg from the base vehicle. A wider body, track-specific cooling and a four-way adjustable coilover system developed with KW complete a package built around circuit use rather than everyday compromise.

More than 250kg of downforce at top speed

Active driver adjustment is replaced by unusually analogue aerodynamic hardware, including a manually adjustable front diffuser and rear wing. In its track configuration the package produces more than 250kg of downforce at the 310km/h maximum speed, while 0-200km/h takes 11.4 seconds.

A collector car born from an engineering experiment

Mercedes-AMG says the project began inside a small engineering team rather than as a conventional product programme. That origin, the 30-car production run and the fact that the allocation disappeared before public debut place the CLE 646 in the same collecting territory as coachbuilt cars and one-off commissions rather than mainstream performance coupes.
