A long voyage aboard OCTOPUS has room for two very different activities: observing the marine environment and making music. Lürssen’s official profile of the 126-metre exploration yacht documents an integrated dock for a 20-metre guest tender and two submarines, alongside a professional music studio and cinema.
A dock for more than a conventional tender
The principal guest tender measures 20 metres, a substantial craft in its own right, and shares an integrated docking arrangement with two submarines. One of the submarines can be operated remotely to reach greater depths, according to the builder’s account.
This equipment makes the vessel more than a yacht with a few watersports toys. Its ability to support months at sea is part of the original expedition brief, though exact mission duration and the availability of particular equipment must be established for each voyage.
A separate life inside the hull
JQB Design created a cinema and a professional music studio within OCTOPUS. Those spaces allow time aboard to revolve around performance, listening and film as well as the experiences available from the yacht’s tenders and submersibles.
A professional studio is a defined onboard facility, not a claim that a particular artist has recorded an album there. The public official profile offers no current guest list or private programme, and those details are not assumed.
Two helicopter landing areas
Espen Øino International designed the distinctive exterior, with a blue hull, white superstructure and two helipads. The builder also identifies an aft hangar, indicating that aviation operations were considered in the vessel’s fundamental arrangement.
Helicopter and submarine work both rely on specialised crews and conditions rather than ordinary leisure-boat procedures. The yacht’s architecture supports those operations without implying that every landing, launch or research mission can proceed in any weather.
The meaning of expedition luxury
OCTOPUS illustrates how a large private yacht can be designed around capability as well as accommodation, with the dock, aircraft facilities and cultural rooms contributing to different kinds of time aboard.
