Porsche Design has opened a new timepieces manufactory in Switzerland focused on precision production and highly personalised chronographs.
Porsche Design moves deeper into Swiss watchmaking
Porsche Design has opened a new timepieces manufactory within Switzerland’s historic watchmaking region. The facility combines traditional hand assembly with a tightly organised production system influenced by Porsche manufacturing principles.
The building also includes a configuration lounge where clients can specify colours, materials and components in a more personal setting. Porsche Design says nearly three-quarters of the watches leaving the facility are one-off configurations.
Cars and watches share materials and details
Customers can choose colours that match their Porsche paintwork and leather straps made from hides related to those used in vehicle interiors. Even the rotor inside the automatic movement can visually reference a Porsche wheel design.
The relationship is more than decorative because the rotor has to remain deliberately unbalanced so that movement of the wrist keeps the watch wound. That mix of visual familiarity and mechanical purpose reflects the company’s broader design philosophy.
Personalisation creates a collector object
A watch configured around a specific car can become a record of an ownership moment rather than simply another accessory. That gives the object additional meaning for collectors who already value specification and provenance.
For SYG readers, the logic resembles a custom tender or yacht interior detail. Luxury becomes more compelling when materials and design choices link several objects within the same owner’s world.
