Porsche Gives 2009–2016 911, Boxster and Cayman Models Wireless CarPlay Without Losing Their Interiors

Porsche’s latest PCCM Plus retrofit brings wireless smartphone integration, updated navigation and vehicle data to 2009–2016 sports cars while retaining factory-style design.

Porsche is extending its Classic Communication Management Plus system to more than 300,000 911, Cayman and Boxster models built between 2009 and 2016. The retrofit adds wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, modern navigation and deeper vehicle integration while preserving an appearance intended to sit naturally inside cabins that are already becoming future classics.

The challenge is modern convenience without visual damage

Owners of older performance cars often want current navigation and phone integration but resist aftermarket screens that dominate dashboards designed in another era. Porsche’s solution uses model-specific hardware intended to look like a natural factory evolution rather than an obvious modification.

That approach protects one of the qualities collectors increasingly value: interior coherence. A cabin can remain recognisably of its period while becoming easier to use on long journeys, which encourages owners to keep driving rather than preserving the car as a static object.

Wireless phone integration changes everyday usability

Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto remove much of the friction associated with using an older car for modern travel. Music, calls and navigation can work through familiar phone interfaces without cables becoming permanent additions to the centre console.

For cars from the 997, 987, 991.1 and 981 generations, that difference is significant because many are still used regularly. They are old enough to attract collectors but modern enough to remain excellent long-distance road cars.

Vehicle data stays inside the new interface

PCCM Plus can display information such as oil temperature and oil pressure, while selected Boxster and Cayman models gain visual parking-distance information. Navigation also adds satellite imagery and a Scenic Roads function designed to favour winding, panoramic routes.

These functions respect the way enthusiasts actually use such cars. Technical data matters during spirited driving, while scenic routing recognises that the journey itself is often the reason for taking a sports car rather than simply reaching a destination.

Future classics need sympathetic upgrades

As younger Porsche generations become collectable, owners face the same decisions long associated with older classics: what should remain original and what can be improved? Factory-supported retrofits provide one answer by allowing technology to evolve without replacing the character of the car.

The principle translates well beyond Porsche. The best upgrades extend usefulness while remaining reversible or visually respectful, preserving the qualities that made an object worth collecting in the first place.
