When PURSUIT entered service in 2010, the idea of a dedicated support vessel was still unfamiliar to many private-yacht owners. With a published range of 4,000 nautical miles at 18 knots, PURSUIT was designed to keep pace with serious cruising programmes rather than operate only within a local marina network. That capability made the support concept relevant to long-distance private travel.
A vessel able to reposition independently also gives an owner choices. It can arrive early, carry supplies to a remote destination or separate from the mothership for servicing while the main itinerary continues with less disruption.

PURSUIT's importance is easier to see in hindsight because Yacht Support vessels are now an established part of large-yacht ownership. The original idea was powerful precisely because it addressed a lifestyle problem rather than adding another layer of luxury for its own sake.
