Isack Hadjar will remain alongside Max Verstappen at Red Bull in 2027, with Verstappen welcoming the stability created by retaining the current driver pairing.
Red Bull has settled its 2027 Formula 1 driver line-up by retaining Isack Hadjar alongside Max Verstappen. The decision gives the team continuity after Hadjar’s promotion from Racing Bulls and comes with explicit support from Verstappen, who says keeping the pairing together makes sense for both drivers and the wider team.
Hadjar earns another season
Hadjar was promoted to Red Bull after a successful rookie campaign with Racing Bulls and will now remain with the senior team for 2027. The extension reflects Red Bull’s decision to give the French driver more time to develop within the organisation rather than reopening a seat that has often changed hands in recent seasons.
That stability matters because moving into Red Bull places a driver directly alongside Verstappen, one of the strongest reference points in Formula 1. A second season gives Hadjar more opportunity to understand the car, engineering processes and expectations without the immediate disruption of another change in team environment.
Verstappen welcomes the decision
Verstappen publicly backed the renewal, saying the decision made sense and that he enjoys working with Hadjar. His support is significant because continuity between team-mates can improve communication, setup comparison and the efficiency with which engineers interpret feedback across both sides of the garage.
A stable pairing also removes one recurring question from Red Bull’s planning. Instead of spending the closing part of the season evaluating replacement options, the team can focus on development and performance while both drivers know exactly where they will be racing next year.
Hadjar returns after injury absence
The announcement came as Hadjar prepared to return to competition after missing three races with a wrist injury. That interruption added another challenge to his first season with Red Bull, making the confirmation of his 2027 seat a clear signal that the team is judging his wider progress rather than only recent race appearances.
Returning with a contract already secured can also reduce external pressure. Hadjar can concentrate on rebuilding rhythm and contributing to the team’s remaining 2026 objectives without every result being interpreted as an audition for the following season.
Red Bull chooses stability over another reset
Red Bull’s second seat has historically attracted intense scrutiny because the performance benchmark set by Verstappen is unusually demanding. Retaining Hadjar suggests the team wants to avoid another cycle of short-term changes and instead build a more settled working relationship around its current pairing.
For 2027, that gives Red Bull a known driver combination as the wider Formula 1 field continues to shift. In a championship where technical continuity and communication can matter as much as outright speed, keeping the same two drivers may prove valuable beyond the headline of a contract extension.
