The 55.7m Picchiotti explorer GALILEO is opening French Polynesia charters through March 2027, with potential longer passages to New Zealand and a reported 9,000nm range.
The 55.7-metre expedition yacht GALILEO is being positioned for charter in French Polynesia during the 2026–27 Southern Hemisphere summer, with Tahiti serving as a gateway to island groups spread over an immense area of the South Pacific. Charter availability has been advertised from the second half of October through 31 March 2027, and itineraries may extend toward New Zealand during February and March by arrangement.
The development is a seasonal charter programme rather than a claim that the vessel has just been built or that every proposed voyage is already confirmed. Travellers interested in remote passages should agree the precise embarkation port, permitted cruising area and expected transfer logistics with the yacht's representative before making international travel arrangements.
GALILEO was delivered in 2011 by Picchiotti, part of the Perini Navi group, and was developed as a full-displacement explorer rather than a light, high-speed motor yacht. The exterior architecture is associated with Philippe Briand's Vitruvius approach, while steel construction and substantial equipment capacity reflect the priority given to longer voyages beyond major ports.
The yacht has reportedly completed two circumnavigations and is marketed with a range of approximately 9,000 nautical miles. That figure is a published capability, not a guarantee of the distance obtainable at any arbitrary speed, loading or weather condition. Captains still make fuel and energy calculations from the actual consumption and reserves for each journey.
A further refit is recorded for 2026, giving guests an updated version of an established expedition platform. Y.CO continues to advertise GALILEO with a dark-blue hull, broad open decks and a strong emphasis on the relationship between the interior and the surrounding seascape.
Prospective charterers should confirm the final inventory for the 2026–27 season rather than assume photographs taken during an earlier year document every current detail. The published Y.CO exterior image illustrates GALILEO herself, but actual water toys, crew specialisms and activities are matters to be agreed in the charter contract.
The published arrangement accommodates up to twelve guests in five cabins, supported by a professional crew of eleven. That ratio allows the onboard team to handle navigation, engineering, hospitality and tender activities while guests are away from the yacht. The experience is aimed at visitors who want both comfortable private accommodation and access to destinations beyond routine port-to-port itineraries.
Public facilities include interior lounges, an area for exercise and a beach club near the water, with modern communications and climate control. The combination can be particularly useful on a long passage, when guests need places for quiet reading and conversation as well as open deck spaces for enjoying the weather.
YachtCharterFleet's October programme information lists WaveRunners, Seabobs, paddleboards, wakeboards, water-skis, soft-top surfboards and foiling equipment among GALILEO's options. The itinerary can also include activities led by specialists, with a surf instructor identified in the published equipment notes.
These facilities give guests several ways to explore a lagoon or sheltered bay, but they do not establish the safety or suitability of every location. Currents, coral, local conservation rules and the availability of rescue support will influence which activities the captain permits. Diving and motorised water sports may require qualifications, additional supervision or local operating permissions.
Many visitors know French Polynesia through Tahiti, Moorea, Bora Bora and the other Society Islands, where sheltered lagoons and established visitor services can support a varied itinerary. A yacht such as GALILEO makes it possible to consider a route that also includes the Tuamotu atolls or farther-flung Marquesas, depending on distance, weather, time available and the captain's judgement.
The Tuamotus demand particular attention to reef passes and tidal streams, while the Marquesas involve longer open-water legs and different landing conditions. An ambitious itinerary is not automatically a better one. Travellers should decide whether their priority is exploring numerous places or spending several days at a small number of destinations.
The advertised programme raises the possibility of voyaging toward New Zealand in February and March 2027. That would be a substantially different undertaking from cruising between the islands of French Polynesia, involving longer passages, entry formalities and closer consideration of weather windows. Charterers should not interpret the option as a fixed itinerary included in every weekly rate.
Y.CO currently presents GALILEO with indicative charter pricing from approximately EUR 280,000 per week, subject to seasonal rates and quotation conditions. Additional expenditure may include fuel, provisions, local taxes, permits, communications and the charter advance provisioning allowance. A written proposal should state exactly what is included and how itinerary changes are handled.
GALILEO's return to the South Pacific illustrates a segment of the charter market in which owners use a yacht's ability to travel and remain away from service hubs as part of the product. This differs from conventional Mediterranean programmes built around short distances between beach clubs and marinas.
The verified October announcement concerns charter availability in Tahiti through the end of March 2027, with potential extension to New Zealand. Actual cruising routes and activities remain conditional on bookings, permissions and sea conditions. The attraction is the option to travel farther without losing the comfort of a substantial professionally operated yacht.
