Southbound yachts gain a technical stop

Cruising begins close to the yard

Auckland's position gives visiting yachts access to Rangitoto, Waiheke Island and the wider Hauraki Gulf soon after leaving the marina. Farther north, the Bay of Islands, Poor Knights Islands and other anchorages can form part of the route into or out of the technical stop.

The attraction is the ability to combine maintenance with a destination rather than treating yard time as separate from the cruising season. Local marine protections and weather conditions still determine where and when a yacht can operate.
