Fraser has lowered the asking price of 42-metre Jongert sailing yacht ABIDE to $4.95 million following substantial refit work, with viewings available in Newport.

Fraser cuts asking price for a 42m Jongert

Fraser has announced a revised asking price of $4,950,000 for the 41.5-metre Jongert sailing yacht ABIDE, placing a substantial Dutch-built cruising yacht back in focus for buyers seeking a classic superyacht. The brokerage update was released on 16 October 2026 and confirms the yacht is available for inspection in Newport, Rhode Island, before an expected relocation to Charleston in November.

The notice is a price improvement rather than a new brokerage appointment or a completed sale. Fraser has not identified a buyer, and the revised asking price should not be interpreted as a confirmed transaction value. The listing is managed by brokers Georges Bourgoignie and John Gladstone, who are handling enquiries about the yacht's equipment and current availability.

A Jongert with an ocean-cruising brief

ABIDE is a Jongert sailing yacht with a steel hull and an aluminium superstructure, designed for passage making as well as life at anchor. Her proportions and deck arrangement reflect a generation of large Dutch-built sailing yachts intended to combine ocean-going capability with comfortable guest spaces. The yard's reputation is associated with robust construction and carefully executed joinery, but individual condition must always be assessed through survey.

At approximately 42 metres, the vessel is comfortably within the superyacht category even though she operates under sail rather than using a large motor yacht's propulsion arrangement. Buyers comparing her with newer sailing yachts should evaluate deck handling, mast and rigging inspection records, engine and generator maintenance, and the overall cost of maintaining a complex sailing system.

Two-year refit changes the maintenance picture

Fraser reports that ABIDE completed a comprehensive two-year refit at Front Street Shipyard in Maine. The programme included machinery upgrades, new teak decks, replacement sails and a complete repaint, addressing several important areas of a long-distance cruising vessel. The work also extended to the Southern Spars masts, which were removed, serviced and repainted.

These are substantial interventions that may influence the amount of near-term work facing a purchaser, but a recent refit is not the same as an all-systems warranty. The dates and scope of each completed item should be verified through invoices, inspection records and a current condition survey. It is especially important to understand work remaining outside the reported refit package.

Sail handling and technical systems deserve detailed review

A yacht designed for open-water sailing depends on far more than a sound hull. Standing rigging, running rigging, hydraulic controls, deck hardware and electrical systems all form part of the operating equipment required for a reliable passage. The mast service described by Fraser is relevant because an owner should know exactly what was removed, inspected and refitted.

A sea trial should also check how the vessel behaves under sail and motor, including sail deployment, reefing, winch controls and the communication between deck crew and helm. A buyer should not rely solely on specifications or marketing photography when judging manoeuvring characteristics. Experienced yacht surveyors and rigging specialists can help identify how the refurbishment aligns with the next intended cruising programme.

Four staterooms for ten guests

ABIDE accommodates up to ten guests in four staterooms, including an owner's suite. Fraser highlights warm wood joinery and an interior intended to retain the character of a traditional Jongert while supporting contemporary cruising. The arrangement offers a different guest experience from a newer yacht with glass walls and broad open aft terraces.

On a sailing yacht, the relationship between cabins, deck access and machinery compartments matters during passages when the vessel is heeled or moving in a seaway. A prospective owner should examine handholds, ventilation, storage and practical movement through the interior, alongside decorative finishes and the published guest capacity.

Newport viewings and planned Charleston move

Fraser states that the yacht is in Newport and expects her to move to Charleston in November 2026. Both are established ports for large sailing vessels, with access to yacht services and onward cruising routes, but availability for a viewing needs to be arranged through the brokerage rather than assumed from the announcement. The proposed move is an itinerary plan, not a guaranteed arrival on a specific day.

Prospective buyers may want to examine how ABIDE would be crewed and maintained on an Atlantic cruising programme. Crew complement, flag, insurance, safety equipment and certification affect the practical operating budget, and an attractive acquisition price cannot be evaluated independently of those longer-term responsibilities.

The revised price is only one part of a purchase decision

Fraser's official 16 October announcement confirms the $4.95 million asking price and summarises the refit. Detailed specifications, inventory, photographs and current availability should be obtained from the brokerage before deciding whether the yacht matches a particular owner's plans.

The yacht's appeal lies in the combination of substantial size, recognised Dutch construction and investment in important sailing and technical equipment. Yet prospective buyers should compare the price with survey findings, maintenance obligations, equipment age and the cost of future refits, rather than treating the advertised reduction as proof of value.

ABIDE offers an example of the brokerage market for large sailing yachts whose character and capabilities are not necessarily reflected by the latest motor-yacht design trends. The next development to monitor will be an eventual sale or another confirmed change to her marketing terms, neither of which is established by the current price announcement.
