Marina Port Vell has added Biras Marina in Virgin Gorda to its collection, creating a Barcelona-to-Caribbean marina link with 25 berths for yachts up to 70 metres.

Marina Port Vell is extending its operating model beyond Barcelona with the addition of Biras Marina on Virgin Gorda in the British Virgin Islands. The move creates a direct strategic link between a major Mediterranean superyacht base and a Caribbean destination, while giving the Barcelona operator its first marina location outside the Mediterranean.

Twenty-five berths extend the network into North Sound

Biras Marina sits within the sheltered waters of North Sound and offers 25 berths for yachts up to 70 metres, supported by 20 additional mooring buoys. Marina Port Vell lists fuel, shore power, fresh water, waste facilities, dock assistance and short- or long-term stays among the operational services available to visiting yachts.

The location is part of Biras Creek Resort rather than a stand-alone industrial marina, so the guest proposition continues ashore through restaurants, accommodation, boutique retail and private waterfront spaces. A helipad and transfer arrangements add another arrival route for owners and guests who are joining a yacht without travelling through the islands entirely by sea.

Virgin Gorda becomes a Caribbean counterpart to Barcelona

Marina Port Vell’s Barcelona base can accommodate yachts up to 190 metres and has developed around both large-yacht berthing and the service expectations of owners, captains and crew. Biras is much smaller in physical scale, but the significance of the agreement lies in exporting the operating model rather than attempting to reproduce Barcelona’s berth dimensions.

For yachts moving seasonally between the Mediterranean and Caribbean, a network spanning both regions can simplify the relationship between berth planning, service standards and local support. Marina Port Vell identifies St Thomas at 35 nautical miles, St Martin/Sint Maarten at 77 nautical miles and St Barths at 93 nautical miles from Biras, placing the marina within practical cruising reach of several established winter destinations.

The move follows Mirazur Capital’s majority investment

The addition is the first expansion step since Mirazur Capital became majority shareholder in Marina Port Vell in June 2026. The stated strategy is to build a network of premium and superyacht marinas in strategically useful destinations, with Biras providing the first evidence of how that strategy may look outside Barcelona.

For Marina Port Vell, the deal also changes the nature of the business from operating one prominent marina to managing a collection that can potentially grow across different cruising regions. How rapidly that network expands will depend on future acquisitions and operating agreements, but Virgin Gorda establishes the first international reference point.

Biras combines marina operations with a destination experience

The resort setting gives Biras a different role from a technical stop or city-centre home port. Visiting yachts have direct access to three dining venues, while the secluded North Sound position is intended to make the berth itself part of the destination rather than simply somewhere to leave the yacht between guest itineraries.

That distinction matters in the Caribbean, where owners and charter guests can choose between highly serviced marina stays and remote anchorages within relatively short distances. By combining a managed superyacht berth with the privacy and hospitality of Virgin Gorda, Marina Port Vell is betting that consistent operations and a strong destination proposition can sit within the same network.
