Leopard 3 and Northstar III strengthened their positions at the Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup after the second day of racing in Porto Cervo. Leopard 3 won the Maxi 1 coastal race, while Northstar III maintained a perfect opening sequence in Maxi Grand Prix.
Yacht Club Costa Smeralda reported a second day of close racing at the 36th Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup in Sardinia. The fleet is competing around Porto Cervo and the La Maddalena archipelago during the 6–12 September regatta.
The latest results have produced two different early patterns across the leading divisions. Leopard 3 and V are level at the front of Maxi 1, while Northstar III has built a stronger advantage in Maxi Grand Prix.
Leopard 3 won the second coastal race in the Maxi 1 division by 46 seconds from V. The result moved both boats to four points after the opening two races.
Capricorno finished fifth in the race and remains within reach of the leading pair. The early standings are still tight because Leopard 3 and V have produced comparable scores across the first part of the series.
Northstar III recorded its third victory in the Maxi Grand Prix division. The result gives the yacht three points and preserves a clear advantage over Jolt and BellaMente, who are both listed on 11 points.
The three wins have given Northstar III the strongest opening sequence in the division. Jolt and BellaMente remain the closest challengers, but they will need a significant improvement in the next races to reduce the gap.
The regatta programme includes a scheduled rest day on 9 September. Racing is due to resume on 10 September, with the first signal scheduled for midday Central European Summer Time.
The break allows crews and shore teams to review the opening races and prepare for the next conditions around northern Sardinia. Changes in wind strength and direction can quickly alter the balance between the high-performance maxi yachts.
The second day has left two different contests developing within the fleet. Leopard 3 and V are level at the front of Maxi 1, while Northstar III has created early separation in Maxi Grand Prix.
The event page for Maxi Yacht Rolex Cup will continue to carry the wider regatta programme and results as the week progresses. The next racing day should show whether the early leaders can maintain their advantage through the middle of the series.
