The MIPCOM media industry gathering in Cannes from 12–15 October featured charter yachts including 52m DB9, HATT MILL, TITIAN PEARL, WILLOW, NO.9 and SONISHI.

A media-industry event brings charter yachts to Cannes

The 2026 MIPCOM television and entertainment market drew a small but prominent fleet of large charter yachts to Cannes' Vieux Port during its 12–15 October programme. Although the event takes place primarily at the Palais des Festivals, the harbour offers a nearby setting for private meetings, hospitality and gatherings with international clients.

YachtCharterFleet's event coverage identified six yachts including the Palmer Johnson DB9, Vicem-built HATT MILL, CRN TITIAN PEARL, Benetti WILLOW and Sunseekers NO.9 and SONISHI. The report reflects the yachts associated with the opening of the 2026 exhibition and should not be mistaken for evidence that all six remained in the port after the market closed.

Why Cannes has a role beyond yacht shows

Cannes is familiar to superyacht owners for the Cannes Yachting Festival and wider Riviera summer season, but MIPCOM demonstrates a different source of demand. International television groups, content companies, financiers and producers regularly assemble in one coastal city, creating a temporary market for private meeting venues close to the convention centre.

A crewed yacht can provide confidential rooms for discussions and a hospitality programme that an exhibitor can tailor around clients. That does not make every yacht suitable for unrestricted corporate events. Commercial passenger limits, harbour permissions, security and any relevant event licences must be checked well before invitations are issued.

DB9 offers a high-profile open-deck platform

The 52.4-metre Palmer Johnson motor yacht DB9 was among the vessels highlighted for MIPCOM. Its distinctive profile and broad exterior areas make it an immediately recognisable example of a yacht configured for social activity. Published particulars include accommodation for twelve guests in five cabins and a forward swimming pool.

DB9 also has a deck Jacuzzi, outdoor bar and watersports equipment, although not all of those facilities are relevant to a corporate gathering. The yacht's layout may appeal to a host planning a relaxed reception after a day at the market. Charter particulars should distinguish overnight accommodation capacity from the number of visitors that may lawfully attend an event.

HATT MILL favours residential interiors

Vicem-built HATT MILL was also identified among the MIPCOM charter offerings, bringing a more residential style to the harbour. Its interior is arranged around an atrium, with extensive wood and leather detailing and a full-beam owner suite that includes private office and exercise facilities.

Accommodation for up to twelve guests across six cabins supports a substantial private group, while shaded exterior dining can be useful for more informal meetings. For a conference-related charter, reliability of Wi-Fi, power supply and practical movement between venue and yacht may be more important than the yacht's most elaborate leisure features.

TITIAN PEARL and WILLOW widen the choice

The CRN motor yacht TITIAN PEARL and Benetti WILLOW illustrate further ways of using a yacht as a hospitality setting. TITIAN PEARL is promoted with separate lounge and dining spaces, a sky lounge bar and a waterside beach club. WILLOW brings modern guest accommodation and a sundeck arranged around a Jacuzzi and bar.

Both yachts are marketed for groups of ten overnight guests, although their layouts serve different tastes. Visitors considering similar charters should assess whether private meetings will take place in a quiet indoor room or in more exposed deck spaces where passing guests and marina activity could affect discretion.

Two Sunseekers add British-built options

The Sunseeker vessels NO.9 and SONISHI rounded out the group highlighted in the opening report. NO.9 offers five guest cabins, flexible accommodation and equipment intended for conventional cruising as well as entertaining. SONISHI is noted for bright interior styling, a private owner study and an elevated deck Jacuzzi with a bar.

The inclusion of several yachts from different builders shows that corporate-charter demand does not belong to one particular design category. A host might value ease of access or a large salon more highly than outright length. The yacht's crew also needs adequate service space to cater for visitors without disrupting safe movement around the vessel.

Charter rates are only a starting point

Indicative weekly charter prices published alongside the event report range from approximately EUR 150,000 for NO.9 to EUR 265,000 for DB9, with some yachts such as HATT MILL quoted in US dollars. These advertised figures are background information rather than confirmed amounts paid by participants at MIPCOM.

The cost of staging a specific meeting or reception can also depend on duration, port charges, catering, taxes and the number of visitors. A harbour berth is not automatically included in every charter, and the yacht's representative must establish whether the proposed use is permitted by the contract and its operating certification.

The business case for temporary superyacht hospitality

Unlike a conventional destination charter, a yacht used alongside a major business event may spend much of its booking period at a berth, functioning as an extension of a company's hospitality operation. Guests may have little interest in watersports or island cruising; location, privacy, reliable communications and presentation can carry greater commercial value.

The completed 12–15 October MIPCOM gathering provides another example of this specialised use of larger yachts in the western Mediterranean. It does not establish that any particular yacht secured a new booking or that all advertised vessels were chartered. The important development is the documented presence of charter-capable yachts around a high-profile non-yachting industry event.
