The sixth Olympic Yacht Show has opened at Olympic Marine in Lavrio, with Greek government leaders and industry representatives highlighting yachting and maritime tourism.

The sixth edition begins at Olympic Marine

The 2026 Olympic Yacht Show has formally opened at Olympic Marine in Lavrio, Greece, following an inaugural ceremony on Thursday 15 October attended by government officials, maritime industry representatives and exhibitors. The organisers' report dated 16 October confirms the opening at 16:00 and places the four-day show at a facility that has hosted each of its six editions.

The latest development is the completed opening ceremony and the industry's discussions there, rather than another advance announcement of the dates. More than 120 yachts and 400 luxury and marine-related brands had been advertised ahead of the event. Visitors should check the live exhibitor information before assuming that every yacht announced in September remains on the water through Sunday.

The organisers make the case for Greek yachting

Organising committee president Gerasimos Gerolimatos described the event as a common meeting point for businesses, institutions and prospective owners. His remarks placed particular emphasis on promoting Greek yachting internationally and creating opportunities for cooperation between marine enterprises. The event's growth has also made it a showcase for smaller yacht builders and service firms alongside larger brokers.

Konstantinos Lampsias, representing Olympic Marine's owner Giorgos Prokopiou, said the venue brings industry professionals into direct contact with vessels and suppliers. The setting is important because buyers can examine construction and onboard systems in their intended environment rather than relying solely on exhibition stands or photographs.

Government support for marine tourism

Greek Minister of Tourism Olga Kefalogianni attended on behalf of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and characterised maritime tourism as a national priority. She pointed to the value of Greece's reputation and the scope for attracting visitors beyond the summer high season. Her comments were an expression of policy support rather than a new announcement of funding for a specific yacht or marina.

Deputy Minister of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy Stefanos Gkikas identified improvements to port infrastructure as an important part of the country's strategy. That is relevant to owners of larger yachts because attractive cruising grounds depend on safe berths, shore power, reliable facilities and practical arrangements for crew and guest transfers.

Marinas as an economic platform

George Alexandratos, president of the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, connected yachting with the wider maritime economy and its international commercial relationships. Greece's islands, ports and specialist marine businesses collectively support a sector encompassing charter management, maintenance, provisioning and yacht brokerage.

An on-water show can help visitors discover those businesses, but the presence of operators at a reception does not establish new sales or investment commitments. Buyers and captains should distinguish the opportunity to begin commercial conversations from contracts actually signed and reported after the event.

Industry awards and sailing recognition

The inauguration included acknowledgements for organisations and individuals associated with the maritime sector. Sponsor EKO received recognition for its continuing support of the show, while awards were presented to Konstantinos Koronakis of the Piraeus Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Stavros Katsikadis of the Greek Marinas Association.

Young sailing athletes Eleni Triantou, Iason Panagopoulos, Stefanos Samaras and Marianna Makri were also honoured for their achievements. Their inclusion connected the commercial exhibition with the skills and sporting traditions that support Greece's wider maritime identity.

What visitors can inspect afloat

The event focuses on premium motor yachts and sailing craft, allowing visitors to walk aboard examples at Olympic Marine's docks and compare equipment, accommodation arrangements and styling. For prospective owners, this offers an opportunity to test sightlines, move through living areas and assess the accessibility of critical equipment.

An exhibition viewing remains only part of a yacht purchase. Buyers should request technical particulars, contract terms and independent surveys as appropriate. Published specifications and exhibition photographs may show optional configurations, so the equipment on an individual hull should always be checked directly.

Access arrangements through Sunday

The sixth show is scheduled to run until Sunday 18 October. The published programme lists Saturday visitor hours from 10:30 to 19:30, followed by a late-night period until 21:30, and Sunday hours from 10:30 to 19:00. Ticket pricing and special access arrangements are subject to the organiser's current conditions.

Visitors arriving from Athens should allow sufficient travel time to Lavrio and check whether meetings aboard particular yachts require appointments. Marina access and private viewing slots may differ from the hours advertised for the wider public exhibition.

A practical measure of international reach

The opening demonstrated the breadth of official and commercial attention now associated with the Olympic Yacht Show. Organiser ONDECK Events hopes the event will encourage cooperation with overseas firms while strengthening Greece's standing as a destination for luxury yacht tourism.

The longer-term outcome cannot be judged from attendance at a ribbon-cutting. Evidence of new orders, successful partnerships and sustained marina investment will emerge over time. For now, the confirmed milestone is that the 2026 exhibition has opened and is welcoming visitors to Olympic Marine through 18 October.
