Royal Huisman is hydrogen ready

Royal Huisman has received Approval-in-Principle (AiP) from Lloyd’s Register at the start of METSTRADE 2024 for its innovative and unique concept for the application of hydrogen onboard sailing superyachts. The shipyard’s inhouse innovation team has been.

An ‘Approval in Principle’ has been honored to following a hazard identification (HAZID) study, which was executed together with Lloyd’s Register and external experts. The goal was to uncover and identify risks and determine the effects of exposure to a hazard while also providing suggestions for mitigating risks. It was concluded the concept is safe and advice was given for the next steps in the process.

“Lloyds Register is proud to award Royal Huisman this Approval-in-Principle. The unique concept brings the shipyard in the lead for the application of hydrogen onboard large sailing yachts. It is likely to be a trendsetting innovation,” commented Mark Nijhoff, Lead Specialist Piping & Decarbonization Systems Global Technical Support Office, Maritime Operations for Lloyd’s Register EMEA.

The Approval-in-Principle marks a milestone of Royal Huisman’s sustainability goals as part of Project Tidal Shift and making the shipyard team ready for the next steps to integrate fuel cell technology in upcoming newbuilds.
