Maribay Toulon Plaisance completes an over €1 million project replacing two ageing concrete pontoons at Darse Nord with 50-metre aluminium floating pontoons.
Maribay Toulon Plaisance has completed a pontoon replacement project valued at more than €1 million at Toulon's Darse Nord marina on France's Mediterranean coast. The work replaces two ageing concrete pontoons with new floating aluminium structures and forms an early phase of a broader regional programme for the modernisation of recreational boating facilities.
Construction began in June 2026 and was undertaken as part of a public-service concession granted by Métropole Toulon Provence Méditerranée. The operator worked with ETMF, Artelia and Ingérop, bringing together marine construction, engineering and project-management expertise. The completed works focus on berth access and safety for local boaters and professionals rather than announcing a new superyacht-only marina.
Each of the new floating pontoons is approximately 50 metres long. The project involved removal of roughly 500 square metres of concrete decking and more than 1,000 tonnes of material, demonstrating the physical scale of replacing ageing waterfront infrastructure while a harbour remains an active marine site.
Structural and operational details matter in this type of work. Floating pontoons must be designed for local water-level changes, vessel loads, mooring forces and exposure to wind and waves. Gangway slopes, accessible services, fire provisions and safe movements between shore and boats all need to be examined as part of a completed installation.
The Darse Nord work is part of an approximately €80 million investment programme intended to upgrade several local recreational ports through 2030. The wider agenda includes a proposed wave barrier, further work to Darse Nord's maintenance area, and planned projects affecting Toulon Vieille Darse, Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer and Port du Lazaret.
A new port at Joseph-Grimaud in La Seyne-sur-Mer is also under consideration. These are elements of a regional forward programme, not a claim that every named project has completed construction. Each location will have different site conditions, approvals and implementation requirements.
Darse Nord accommodates more than 370 vessels and has a roughly 3,000-square-metre maintenance area with a 25-tonne boat lift, in addition to shore electricity and water. Its infrastructure is principally relevant to local boating and marine-services activity; the reported facilities do not establish that a 50-metre superyacht can be lifted or safely berthed there.
Nevertheless, smaller service ports are part of the operating network used by yacht tenders, shore-side repair teams and equipment suppliers. Better pontoons, safer access and more reliable utilities can improve working conditions for visiting technicians and vessels supporting larger yachts elsewhere on the coast.
Replacing a pontoon is not the end of its service-life requirements. Operators must maintain mooring connections, inspect floatation and structural elements, monitor access equipment and keep electrical and water supplies safe. They also need to control the effects of construction waste and communicate work restrictions to harbour users during future projects.
The local authorities describe the upgrade as a first significant infrastructure step in a wider programme for the region. The photograph accompanying this report is original project imagery supplied by Toulon Provence Méditerranée, not a stock picture of an unrelated French marina.
