Define the acoustic character you want

A room does not need to be acoustically dead to feel comfortable. Formal salons, dining rooms, cabins and cinemas each benefit from a different balance between liveliness and absorption. The designer should define the desired character with the acoustic specialist before selecting finishes purely for their visual effect. A hard, reflective material palette may need carefully integrated absorptive elements, while an already textile-rich room may require less intervention. Designers should select the location and visible finish with real operation in mind and confirm statutory requirements through the responsible specialists.
