No. 388; Evadne; HMS Evadne; Zapala; Gaviota IV
Marala is a 58.83-metre classic motor yacht built by Camper & Nicholsons in 1931, with original exterior design by Charles E. Nicholson. Her surviving history includes private ownership, Royal Navy service during the Second World War and a major preservation-led restoration completed by Pendennis in 2022.
During wartime service the yacht was known as Evadne and HMS Evadne. Royal Navy war diaries record Evadne being assigned to augment South Irish Sea escort duties in March 1941 and, in December 1943, being reallocated as an anti-submarine yacht to the Mediterranean with Gibraltar as her base.
Pendennis undertook an extensive restoration after Marala arrived in Falmouth in 2019. The project renewed more than 100 tonnes of steel, modernised major onboard systems, preserved significant original timber and riveted construction, retained the rebuilt original engines and restored elements of the exterior profile toward its 1930s form.
Marala remains significant because those changes were intended to keep an operational yacht alive rather than reproduce a historic appearance around an essentially new vessel. Her combination of surviving machinery, wartime history, classic British design and continued operation makes her an important example of twentieth-century yacht preservation.

Indicative SYG estimate. Value basis: Length-and-age model using length. Central annual OPEX uses the established 14% of estimated yacht value fallback, adjusted for yacht age where available. Low and high cases reflect utilisation, condition, crewing, fuel, berthing and maintenance uncertainty. Capital reserve is shown separately from routine OPEX. Figures must be replaced or upgraded when reported accounts, invoices, court records or other yacht-specific evidence is available.

Yacht intelligence
A dynamic record assembled from Superyacht Guide yacht data, sourced ownership records, construction milestones, valuations, sale listings and related reporting.
Names are displayed as recorded in Superyacht Guide. Their chronological order is not implied unless supported by dated evidence.
No sourced ownership record is currently published for this yacht.
Last published asking price of €10 million when the classic 58.8-metre motor yacht Marala was sold. No separate newer certified or transaction value was identified during this review. The same reviewed public figure is used as the current approximate editorial value. A historic asking price is not being represented as a current advertised asking price. VALUE_CLASS: LAST_KNOWN_ASKING_PRICE. Historical or last-known public asking-price evidence. The yacht may no longer be offered at this price. Approximate annual operating cost calculated at 14% of the reviewed yacht value under the Superyacht Guide methodology. A reliable yacht-specific annual operating budget should override this percentage estimate.
Values and running costs are estimates unless explicitly identified as documented transaction figures.
