The 31.6m Sparkman & Stephens-designed SILVERLINING has joined Bernard Gallay's sales offering at €2.7m, following extensive 2022–23 work.

A fresh sales listing in Southeast Asia

Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage has announced the addition of SILVERLINING, a 31.60-metre Sparkman & Stephens-designed sailing yacht, to its brokerage offering. The October 20 release places the vessel in Phuket, Thailand, with an asking price of €2.7 million. It describes a bluewater yacht with an extended private and charter cruising history rather than a newly built boat.

The announcement establishes a current opportunity to acquire the yacht; it does not establish that a sale has occurred. The broker says SILVERLINING has travelled more than 50,000 nautical miles. That history can be attractive to buyers seeking a proven long-distance platform, but it also makes maintenance documentation, passage records and independent survey especially important.

Sparkman and Stephens heritage, Thai construction

SILVERLINING was built in 2011 by Phithak Shipyard at Satun in Thailand to a design from Sparkman & Stephens. The broker describes aluminium construction to ABS standards, and lists a beam of 7.19 metres and draught of 3.50 metres. Her overall arrangement was developed for serious voyaging, not simply for short cruises between marinas.

For an ocean-going purchaser, the materials and underwater configuration are central to the inspection. Aluminium hull surveys should pay attention to galvanic protection, structural repairs and the interfaces between equipment and the shell. A 3.50-metre draught can also limit shallow anchorages despite the yacht's otherwise manageable overall length.

An ownership history shaped by ocean passages

The brokerage account says the first owner commissioned SILVERLINING for global family cruising and spent six years voyaging. A subsequent owner planned Pacific passages with friends and family and directed a programme of maintenance and technical renewal. The yacht has also operated in the Southeast Asian charter market, placing both private and commercial demands on its equipment.

That experience gives prospective owners questions worth asking rather than guarantees to assume. Detailed voyage logs, crew records, refit invoices and an updated condition survey help establish how the vessel has been used. A boat that has crossed oceans can demonstrate capability, but every future passage still depends on the condition and preparation of the yacht at departure.

Rig, power and communications refit

Between 2022 and 2023, the reported refit replaced standing and running rigging and sails, updated lithium batteries and communications, and refreshed the electronic systems. The broker also reports major overhauls of the engine and generators. Renewing these components can be especially consequential on an expedition sailing yacht, where equipment must often work far from support facilities.

The word refit covers many possible scopes, so buyers should obtain a dated schedule rather than rely on a headline description. Rigging certification, sail inventories, battery charging arrangements and generator service reports can distinguish recently renewed systems from ones approaching another overhaul. This is also the basis for estimating near-term operating and replacement budgets.

Four cabins with an unusual owner's bathroom

Eight guests can be accommodated across four guest cabins, including a full-beam owner's suite. The broker highlights a glass-walled bathroom and handcrafted wooden bathtub as distinctive interior details. Chris Lenz is credited with the interior, whose bright saloons and extensive windows are intended to make longer stays at sea comfortable for guests.

These spaces support a very different onboard rhythm from a yacht designed primarily around a beach club. On an extended voyage, secure storage, handholds, ventilation, galley usability and the separation of crew activities all matter. Buyers should inspect the layout underway as well as at anchor, particularly if they intend to mix family cruising with occasional charter.

Tropical operating programme and toys

SILVERLINING's published inventory includes a jet tender, diving equipment and kayaks. Sun pads, cockpit access to the upper saloon and custom awnings are intended for the warm-water regions in which the yacht has been used. Her Phuket location could appeal to buyers who already operate or plan to cruise in the Indian Ocean and Southeast Asia.

Tenders and dive equipment bring maintenance responsibilities beyond the main vessel. A buyer should confirm the age and service status of outboards, safety gear and compressors where applicable, while reviewing local charter licensing and crew qualifications separately. Equipment shown in a brokerage presentation should be reconciled with the contractual inventory before completion.

Engine and range figures in perspective

The vessel is listed with a 480hp Caterpillar C12 auxiliary engine, a cruising speed of ten knots under power and an advertised economical range of 2,500 nautical miles. The broker also identifies two Caterpillar C4.4 generators. Those figures help frame passage planning but should not be treated as measured guarantees for every load and sea state.

Actual endurance depends on fuel reserves, weather, speed, generator loads and how often the yacht can sail effectively. An experienced skipper will distinguish the model's published figures from consumption recorded in the logbook. Long-range ambitions are better supported by a verified fuel plan, redundancy checks and well-documented spare parts than by a single nominal range number.

Assessing the sales proposition

The €2.7 million asking price presents buyers with a large aluminium cruising yacht that has received significant reported technical investment, an established Asian cruising presence and four-cabin accommodation. Its appeal rests on expedition use and liveaboard practicality, not merely interior styling. The broker's October announcement renews attention on that combination.

No buyer, sale consideration or completion date has been confirmed. A purchaser should compare the up-to-date maintenance file and inspection findings with the demands of a proposed cruising programme. The significant verified development is SILVERLINING's current brokerage availability at the stated price, with the technical details requiring the normal independent checks before a transaction.
