Bernard Gallay has announced another price reduction for the 31.8m Trehard aluminium sailing yacht ASAHI, now asking €1.75m VAT paid.

A further reduction for a French-built sloop

Bernard Gallay Yacht Brokerage has issued a 19 October 2026 announcement confirming another price reduction for ASAHI, a 31.80-metre aluminium sloop built by Trehard. The yacht is offered from Sète in southern France and the current asking price shown on the broker's listing is €1.75 million, advertised as VAT paid.

The new figure is an asking price rather than a completed transaction value. ASAHI is also identified as the former OCEAN'S SEVEN², so searches using only the current name can miss earlier reporting. The relevant October news is the revised brokerage position for an established yacht, not a newly constructed vessel or an unannounced change of owner.

Jacques Fauroux design and offshore brief

Built in 1998 by the French yard Trehard, ASAHI was designed by Jacques Fauroux for owners seeking substantial ocean-going sailing capability. Her aluminium construction and 31.80-metre length place her in the large performance cruiser category. The builder and designer developed a sailing platform intended to cover long distances without giving up active sail handling.

The broker reports speeds of approximately fifteen knots when reaching and up to twenty-three knots surfing downwind. Those are historical performance observations, not an independently verified promise for a buyer's future voyages. Sail selection, conditions, load, maintenance and professional crew remain decisive, and potential owners should evaluate the yacht in the context of their own sailing experience.

A cockpit divided between guests and steering

One of ASAHI's distinctive features is a large central cockpit with a dining table arranged for ten to twelve people. The broker describes a separate aft helm area with access to crew accommodation, allowing social space and sail handling to function without continually competing for the same deck footprint.

Separation of these activities is particularly useful when a yacht makes passages with guests aboard. A buyer should still check deck circulation, access to emergency equipment and how sheets and lines move through working zones under load. The attractiveness of a sheltered dining space cannot replace a detailed appraisal of the vessel's sailing and safety arrangements.

Convertible cabins for a range of parties

Four guest cabins offer accommodation for up to eight people, with the broker describing arrangements that can convert between twin and king-size beds. The two forward cabins may also be combined into a larger owner's suite with separate bathrooms. That flexibility gives ASAHI a different accommodation proposition from a yacht with only one permanently configured main cabin.

The interior uses light birch finishes and has been conceived to support extended stays afloat. Prospective owners should verify the practicality of each cabin configuration, especially if family members, racing crew or paying charter guests will use the yacht at different times. Headroom, storage and ventilation become increasingly important during longer passages rather than short inspections in port.

Rig and sail-handling equipment

ASAHI carries a carbon-fibre rig attributed to Espace Composite and a sail inventory associated with Incidence. Hydraulic systems support the handling of her large sails. The technical arrangement reflects the balance sought by a fast long-distance sloop: capable sailing performance with machinery that helps professional crews manage demanding loads.

Buyers need current inspection reports for rigging, furlers, hydraulic hoses and fittings, with serial numbers that match the actual equipment aboard. Hydraulic equipment can require significant specialist maintenance even when externally tidy. Sail age and condition should be documented independently of marketing photographs, since a replacement wardrobe can represent material expenditure after purchase.

Work carried out in the 2019–20 refit

The broker says a substantial refurbishment in 2019 and 2020 included a new 380hp Cummins auxiliary engine, generators, standing rigging, electronics and interior upgrades. Additional yard work in Genoa in 2022 is reported to have included antifouling and anodes. These details supply useful context for understanding why the yacht remains actively marketed.

The technical record should be evaluated component by component. Engines and generators can be recently installed but still accumulate meaningful operating hours, while coatings and anodes follow recurring service intervals. A purchaser should seek the refit invoices, updated wiring diagrams, equipment manuals and subsequent maintenance records before estimating how much work would be required for an ambitious cruising programme.

Berthing and ownership considerations

At 31.80 metres, ASAHI offers a scale that can accommodate guests and crew separately, but the sailing rig, underwater profile and manoeuvring arrangements introduce different port constraints from a comparable motor yacht. Her position in Sète gives prospective buyers access to the French Mediterranean service network and potential trial waters.

The due-diligence process should consider hull corrosion protection, the rig and deck structure, sea valves, safety inventories and the status of any relevant surveys. Running costs will also be shaped by the captain's cruising plan, crew arrangement and equipment renewal schedule. A low purchase price relative to a new build does not automatically imply a low annual operating budget.

What the €1.75 million figure signifies

The current offer brings a recognised French designer, aluminium construction, flexible four-cabin accommodation and a documented technical refit into the market at a new stated price. For buyers who value ocean-going sailing and practical cockpit planning, those attributes can matter more than a conventional measure of interior volume.

There is no evidence in the broker's announcement that ASAHI has sold or that her historical sailing performance has been retested this month. The €1.75 million price and Sète location are broker-published details that may change. Independent survey, contractual inventory and ownership documentation remain necessary before any buyer should treat the yacht as ready for an intended programme.
