Northrop & Johnson is offering the 35.1-metre Alloy Yachts sailing yacht MY STAR for €2.95 million VAT paid, highlighting a four-year circumnavigation and a record of major refits.
The 35.1-metre Alloy Yachts sailing yacht MY STAR has entered Northrop & Johnson's sales fleet with an advertised price of €2.95 million, stated as VAT paid. An official announcement dated 21 October identifies Richard Callender as the listing broker and places particular emphasis on the yacht's record of extended ocean cruising.
A listing price is not the final agreed consideration, and a claimed tax status requires verification for a buyer's circumstances. The yacht's history is relevant to understanding her intended use, but a transaction should depend on independent technical checks and complete documentation.
The present owners undertook a four-year circumnavigation with a family and six crew, according to the brokerage. Reported stays included ten months in French Polynesia, four in Alaska, six in Mexico's Sea of Cortez and four more across Caribbean waters.
Those passages involved operating the vessel through different climates and demanding navigation environments. A prospective owner should review the logs and service records to understand how the rigging, safety equipment and machinery were maintained during the journey.
Launched in 1994, MY STAR was constructed by New Zealand's Alloy Yachts with design from Dubois Naval Architects and an interior credited to RWD. The vessel combines an aluminium hull with a carbon-fibre superstructure, reflecting her long-range sailing brief.
Construction quality and design pedigree are meaningful context but do not establish the current condition of any 32-year-old yacht. A buyer should commission checks of structure, corrosion protection, rigging, winches and the electronics used for offshore navigation.
The owner and broker describe noteworthy refit programmes in 2015, 2019 and 2023, followed by regular upgrades of mechanical, technical and sailing systems. Interior changes have also been completed to support daily living during extended travel.
A full inventory and service documentation should distinguish which components were renewed and which remain from earlier periods. For a sailing yacht, the age of standing rigging and sail inventory can influence the near-term maintenance budget as much as the interior furnishings.
MY STAR accommodates up to eight guests in four ensuite staterooms, including a full-beam owner cabin, with separate quarters for six professional crew. The raised main saloon has extensive glazing and a sliding sunroof, offering a bright place for reading or dining when the yacht is at sea or anchor.
The cabin arrangement may suit a family contemplating a longer programme, although storage and privacy should be examined in the context of realistic luggage and crew operations. A spacious saloon alone does not guarantee comfortable life when the vessel is sailing in rougher conditions.
The main cockpit can be enclosed to give protection against wind and spray, while other exterior lounges and a swimming platform provide access to the water when conditions are calm. This flexibility is valuable on a yacht that may move between cold and warm regions during the same year.
A proper survey should examine covers, deck drainage, safe movement around sailing equipment and the equipment used for boarding. Families should also consider whether the helm layout supports their desired division of duties between professional crew and owners.
MY STAR's circumnavigation gives prospective owners some insight into the kind of voyages the yacht has undertaken. It does not, however, guarantee that every planned long-distance route is appropriate without further servicing, safety reviews and suitable seamanship.
Acquisition cost should be considered alongside rig maintenance, sails, engineering, crew and insurance. A sea trial and access to complete refit invoices are important steps before treating the €2.95 million asking price as an indicator of total ownership expense.
