Dutch Design's 42.5m SEA ROVER has advanced with its aluminium superstructure installed on a steel hull, as engineering and wellness-focused interior work continues.
SEA ROVER, a 42.5-metre superyacht developed by Dutch Design founder and owner Scott Blum with designer Bernd Weel, has passed a substantial construction milestone. The aluminium superstructure has been installed onto the steel hull, moving the project beyond the earliest fabrication stages. Construction officially began in September 2025, and the company now reports engineering, interior production and detailed mock-up assessments continuing in parallel.
Naval architecture, technical engineering and construction oversight are being handled by DIANA Yacht Design, while California-based Paula Bruss is responsible for the interiors. The build is overseen day to day by technical project manager Julian van Santen. Together, those responsibilities illustrate the practical division between design vision, structural engineering and onsite execution on a bespoke superyacht project.
SEA ROVER has been conceived around the owner's emphasis on health, activity and daily routines at sea. Its bridge deck gives prominent space to a gym, spa and configurable sports court, placing facilities often relegated to lower or secondary areas in a location with broad exterior views. That layout is intended to make movement and recovery part of ordinary life aboard rather than occasional extras during a holiday.
The sports court is designed to accommodate activities including basketball, pickleball, paddle tennis and volleyball, and to serve as a storage area for tenders or equipment when necessary. A spa includes warm and cool plunge pools, a sauna, massage space and other recovery features. Such multifunctional planning creates technical challenges around flooring, protection, safe equipment storage and access, all of which have to be resolved during detailed construction.
Paula Bruss has drawn on Dutch minimalism and elements of coastal California to establish a calmer palette of natural materials and soft neutral tones. A glass staircase is intended to bring daylight through the yacht, while the main-deck galley, dining and lounge arrangements place communal life close to exterior views. The choice differs from layouts that keep every service function out of sight.
The company describes capacity for twelve guests across five cabins, with a main-deck owner's suite and separate VIP and twin accommodation below. The broader vessel is designed at around 480 gross tonnes, allowing several facilities associated with larger yachts to be housed within its 42.5-metre length. A beach-club platform arrangement and raised sundeck offer contrasting settings for active and quiet hours.
An inspection by ACP Surveyors of Monaco reportedly found no remarks on the steelwork and construction process at the stage reviewed. The yard describes SEA ROVER as the intended first delivery within a limited series of ten yachts. Preliminary performance information refers to a 12-knot cruising speed, 14.3-knot maximum and roughly 3,700 nautical miles of range at ten knots, all still subject to final vessel testing.
An installed superstructure is an important visible step, but engineering completion, system integration, interior commissioning and sea trials remain before a yacht of this complexity can enter service. The source provides a construction milestone and planned design characteristics, not a verified final delivery or a completed performance record. For owners following the project, the next meaningful evidence will be the progress of those subsequent stages.
