A2 Completes Major Refit at Pendennis Vilanova

M/Y A2 has completed a substantial refit at Pendennis Vilanova, with the programme extending across exterior finishing, engineering, structural work and onboard details. Pendennis says the project was delivered in close collaboration with the yacht’s crew before final commissioning and successful sea trials.

The scope included a full exterior repaint and a complete strip and refinish of the exterior varnish. Those visible works were accompanied by major engineering servicing, crane work, steel repairs and interior finishing, making the stay a broad technical and cosmetic refit rather than a single-system maintenance period.

Engineering and steel work ran alongside cosmetics

Large-yacht refits often combine work that is immediately visible to an owner with less obvious technical tasks below deck. In A2’s case, Pendennis carried out major engineering servicing while also addressing steel repairs, allowing structural and machinery work to proceed during the same yard period as the paint and varnish programme.

The inclusion of crane works adds another operational element because lifting equipment is central to the handling of tenders, stores and equipment aboard a large yacht. Bringing those jobs into one refit window can reduce the need for separate technical stops, provided testing and commissioning are coordinated before the yacht returns to service.

Full repaint and varnish renewal reset the exterior

A complete exterior repaint is one of the largest visible interventions during a refit because preparation and coating quality determine both appearance and long-term protection. Pendennis paired the repaint with stripping and refinishing the exterior varnish, addressing two finish systems that require different preparation and application processes.

Interior finishing was also included in the programme, although Pendennis has not published a room-by-room alteration schedule. The yard’s description therefore points to a refit centred on renewal, servicing and repair rather than claiming a wholesale redesign of the yacht’s accommodation.

A2 has a long history with Pendennis

The latest Vilanova period continues a relationship that dates back to 2012, when A2 visited Pendennis in the United Kingdom for a major remodel. That earlier project subsequently received the Rebuilt Yacht Award at the 2013 World Superyacht Awards, establishing the yacht as a significant repeat-refit client for the group.

Pendennis says A2 has continued to return for support and refit work at both Falmouth and Vilanova. Repeat visits of this kind can be useful on an older yacht because a yard that knows the vessel’s systems, construction and previous modifications begins each new project with more historical information than a facility seeing the yacht for the first time.

Vilanova strengthens Pendennis’ Mediterranean role

The project also illustrates the role of Pendennis Vilanova as a Mediterranean extension of the group’s long-established Falmouth operation. For yachts cruising extensively in the western Mediterranean, Vilanova provides access to Pendennis support without requiring every maintenance period to involve a return to the United Kingdom.

A2 has now completed commissioning and sea trials after the latest work package. With the repaint, varnish, engineering, crane, steel and interior tasks all closed out in one yard period, the refit provides a useful example of how an established yacht can combine appearance, reliability and structural maintenance in a coordinated programme.
