Fraser has added the classic motor yacht GITANES to its central sales fleet, with the current yacht listing showing an asking price of €1.15 million. The yacht measures about 35 metres and dates from the Lorenzo Benetti era, giving buyers access to a very different proposition from a modern composite production yacht.

Fraser’s news announcement describes GITANES as built in 1983 and refitted in 2023, while the current yacht-listing header shows 1982/2024 and its descriptive text again refers to 1983/2023. That inconsistency is worth resolving during due diligence rather than treating a marketing-page date as definitive vessel documentation.

Steel construction and traditional character

The broker describes a full-displacement steel hull with an aluminium superstructure and a pronounced flared bow. The yacht was originally conceived for an Italian owner seeking extended cruising capability and a layout suited to spending substantial time at sea.

The current listing provides accommodation for 10 guests in four cabins with a crew of seven. That configuration gives GITANES a comparatively intimate guest arrangement for her length while retaining the service capacity expected of a traditionally operated motor yacht.

Refit history matters

For a yacht of this age, the scope and quality of refit work are central to value. Buyers should examine class and survey records, machinery service history, tank and piping condition, electrical upgrades, stabilisation equipment and the detail behind the broker’s stated refit dates.

A recent cosmetic programme can improve presentation without necessarily addressing every age-related system, so the distinction between structural, mechanical and interior work matters. Independent technical inspection should therefore sit alongside any review of the yacht’s pedigree or asking price.

At €1.15 million, GITANES occupies a part of the market where acquisition cost can be modest relative to the annual expense of operating a 35-metre steel yacht. Prospective owners should budget for crew, insurance, berthing, maintenance and periodic capital works rather than judging affordability from purchase price alone.
