Bering Yachts and RMK Yachts have formed a collaboration to develop and build expedition superyachts above 500 GT, including polar-capable projects.

Bering moves into a larger expedition-yacht segment

Bering Yachts has signed a collaboration agreement with RMK Yachts to develop and build expedition superyachts above 500 GT. The partnership is aimed at highly customised projects that can extend into ice-class and polar-class capability.

Bering will retain responsibility for design direction, brand identity and client relationships, while RMK will contribute engineering platforms, construction infrastructure and experience with more complex vessels. The companies say the collaboration can support yachts from roughly 500 to 3,000 GT.

RMK adds industrial capacity for more demanding projects

RMK’s facilities are geared toward larger steel-and-aluminium vessels and projects requiring heavier engineering than Bering’s existing production range. That gives the partnership a route into yachts with greater volume, longer endurance and more specialised operating requirements.

The agreement also gives Bering access to a yard with experience in vessels designed for harsher operating environments. For owners seeking high-latitude cruising, that can affect hull structure, machinery redundancy, insulation, ice capability and the logistics needed to remain self-sufficient away from conventional support infrastructure.

Expedition demand continues moving up in scale

The market for expedition yachts has expanded from rugged conversions and smaller explorer platforms into highly finished custom yachts with substantial hotel loads, tenders and scientific or adventure equipment. Larger gross tonnage gives designers more freedom to combine those functions without sacrificing owner and guest comfort.

Bering says the partners are already discussing potential projects with clients. The next measure will be the first signed yacht under the agreement and how the two companies divide engineering, production and client management once a project moves from concept into construction.
