Boero YachtCoatings names La Moderna and Empordaro as Catalan distribution partners and expands CHALLENGERMIX colour services ahead of the Barcelona show.

Boero expands its commercial network in Catalonia

Boero YachtCoatings is using the October 2026 Barcelona Boat Show to introduce an expanded local distribution network for its professional yacht and superyacht finishing systems. The Italian coatings specialist has confirmed agreements with two Catalan paint suppliers: La Moderna, serving Barcelona and Tarragona, and Empordaro, serving the province of Girona. The announcement combines trade-show participation with practical changes in how professional applicators can obtain products and technical colour services.

The company is due to join the Barcelona Clúster Nàutic area at Gran Vía, Pavilion 2, Level 0, stand E94, during the show from 14 to 18 October. Its presence is intended for shipyards, paint contractors and nautical professionals rather than a display of newly launched boats. The new distribution arrangements are a business development, not proof that any particular superyacht has been refinished using the partners' products.

Local colour matching becomes a more substantial service

La Moderna has installed two CHALLENGERMIX colour-mixing systems as part of the distribution programme. Boero says the technology provides more than 245,000 colour formulations across six qualities within its finishing family. For a yacht owner requesting a distinctive exterior colour or an exact repair, the important consideration is that the formula can be prepared and supported through a local professional supply point.

Mixing capacity does not remove the need for a documented coating specification. A result that appears identical on a small sample can behave differently over the broad, curved surfaces of a yacht. Applicators must account for lighting, substrate preparation, film thickness and curing conditions, and should retain a controlled reference sample so later repairs can be compared against the original finish.

CHALLENGERPRO is the centre of the product presentation

Boero is emphasising CHALLENGERPRO, its premium polyurethane finish system, as the product family supporting the Spanish expansion. The company highlights long-term appearance, protective performance and a broad range of available colours. One named finish, CHALLENGERPRO Fusion, is promoted for a high-gloss, mirror-like result with abrasion resistance and colour stability, properties that are particularly visible on large yacht topsides.

An attractive gloss cannot be assessed separately from the underlying work. Fairing, primers, surface preparation, spray technique and temperature management determine how consistently a finish performs. Contractors should establish compatibility between products and consult the manufacturer's current technical data sheets rather than infer that a publicity claim is a universal warranty against fading, abrasion or defects.

Why a local supplier network matters to captains and yards

Large-yacht paint programmes are rarely simple retail purchases. A project may require substantial volumes of accurately batched product, specialist solvents, protective materials and repeatable technical guidance over several weeks. Deliveries can be interrupted if one colour or component is unavailable, and missed application windows can affect labour planning, paint shed occupancy and handover dates.

By extending support through La Moderna and Empordaro, Boero aims to reduce the distance between the manufacturer and contractors working across Catalonia. A captain commissioning cosmetic work should still confirm that the chosen yard has appropriate environmental controls, experience with the specified system and written approval for every stage of the planned work. Dealer availability supports a project, but it is not a substitute for the applicator's responsibility.

Learning from performance sailing without confusing applications

Boero is also referencing its technical relationship with Ferrari Hypersail, a research-led high-performance sailing programme for which it has developed a coating system addressing demanding marine operating conditions. The company points to controlling coating thickness and weight, variables that matter whenever designers seek efficiency without sacrificing appropriate surface protection.

A superyacht's finishing requirements are not identical to those of a racing platform. A fast sailing prototype may prioritise mass and aerodynamic or hydrodynamic behaviour, whereas a privately owned cruising yacht may focus on appearance, repairability, routine washdown and service life. Technical lessons can transfer between markets, but each hull and superstructure should retain an independently suitable coating specification.

Barcelona and the wider yacht-refit economy

Catalonia has an established boating and refit industry, with Barcelona providing harbour infrastructure, engineering businesses and international access. Contractors in the region work across multiple vessel types, and the coating requirements of a large composite superstructure can be very different from those of an aluminium or steel hull. Product selection must be based on the material, the intended service conditions and the manufacturer's instructions.

The Barcelona show gives suppliers an opportunity to meet both the professional yards undertaking large work packages and smaller specialist teams responsible for more limited refinishing. Boero's release refers to strengthening its market coverage in Spain, but it does not provide order totals or claimed revenue from the two new distributor relationships. Those commercial results will only become clear through subsequent activity.

The practical questions before a superyacht paint job

Owners planning significant exterior work should obtain a written proposal that identifies the surface zones, preparation standard, complete coating system, colour reference and the process for treating existing damage. They should also ask for a realistic environmental and weather contingency, an inspection protocol, warranty conditions and a specification for future touch-up materials.

Boero's latest announcement is therefore most significant as an improvement to the supply and colour-service infrastructure supporting professional marine finishes. It places the company's products closer to Catalan contractors at the point where a yacht's appearance is maintained or renewed. For buyers and captains, a local colour-mixing capability is valuable when paired with skilled application and a clear maintenance history.
