V&A Waterfront is developing the R230 million Quay 7 Superyacht Marina in Cape Town as South Africa’s first purpose-built marina for large yachts. The facility is designed around eight berths, with six stern-in and two alongside positions for yachts from 40 to 90 metres.
The marina sits in front of the new Cape Town EDITION hotel and is scheduled to open in November 2026. Floating jetties will provide electricity, water and connectivity, while bonded fuel, security and concierge support are intended to make the facility workable for both short visits and longer operational stays.
Cape Town lies close to major Atlantic and Indian Ocean routes but has historically had limited purpose-built infrastructure for yachts at the upper end of the fleet. Quay 7 is intended to close part of that gap by combining larger berths with access to established repair and dry-dock services around the V&A Waterfront.
The project also has a dual-purpose element. Outside the peak visiting-yacht season, the basin can support catamaran commissioning and export staging for South African builders, linking the marina directly with Cape Town’s existing boatbuilding economy.
Damen Shipyards Cape Town is building six 30-metre floating pontoons for the marina, with local subcontractors and suppliers involved in the programme. The development therefore supports marine manufacturing as well as the tourism and service activity generated by visiting yachts.
For captains and managers, the practical significance will be the combination of berth size, logistics and technical support rather than the marina’s location alone. If the facility performs as planned, Quay 7 could strengthen Cape Town’s position as a genuine operational stop between northern-hemisphere seasons rather than only a scenic diversion.
