Casa Sanlorenzo in Venice has become the principal venue for Homo Faber in Città 2026, hosting exhibitions focused on craftsmanship, materials and contemporary design.
Sanlorenzo has expanded its cultural programme in Venice by making Casa Sanlorenzo the principal venue for Homo Faber in Città 2026. Running throughout September, the programme brings together installations and exhibitions focused on materials, craftsmanship and contemporary making, extending the yacht builder’s design activity into a wider cultural setting.
The Venetian residence is hosting the main programme of Homo Faber in Città from 1 to 30 September. The initiative is promoted by the Michelangelo Foundation for Creativity and Craftsmanship and uses venues across Venice to connect specialist making with contemporary design practice.
At Casa Sanlorenzo, the programme includes The Integrity of Materials, developed with Artemest, together with the exhibitions Ca’ Riflesso and Fiat Lux. The combination gives the space a role beyond brand presentation, using the building as an active venue for discussion around materials and craft.
Sanlorenzo’s involvement is relevant to the superyacht sector because many of the same disciplines represented by Homo Faber are fundamental to yacht interiors. Joinery, stonework, metalwork, textiles and bespoke furniture all depend on specialist skills that are increasingly difficult to replace with standardised production.
By supporting a programme centred on contemporary making, Sanlorenzo is reinforcing the connection between yacht construction and the wider world of decorative arts. That relationship is especially visible on custom projects, where owners often expect one-off pieces and material treatments rather than catalogue solutions.
The partnership comes during the tenth anniversary year of Sanlorenzo Arts and the first full year of programming at Casa Sanlorenzo. The company has increasingly used the Venice venue as a permanent cultural platform rather than a temporary event space tied only to yacht shows or product launches.
That long-term approach gives Sanlorenzo a place to explore design ideas outside the immediate constraints of a yacht project. It also creates a setting where architects, artists, craftspeople and clients can encounter the materials and creative processes that later influence yacht interiors and brand direction.
For large yacht builders, cultural partnerships can help define a brand beyond technical specification and model range. Sanlorenzo’s programme places craftsmanship and design history alongside innovation, suggesting that cultural credibility is becoming part of how some yards communicate with owners.
For Superyacht Guide readers, the practical connection remains the work itself. Custom yachts rely on a network of specialist makers, and programmes such as Homo Faber help keep those skills visible, valued and connected to the next generation of designers and clients.
