Damen Yachting Starts North Sea Trials for Dolphin-Blue Amels 80

The latest Amels 80 moves into open-water testing

Damen Yachting has started the North Sea trials programme for the latest Amels 80 after the yacht departed Vlissingen. The milestone places the 80-metre Limited Editions yacht in the final testing phase before delivery to her owner.

The yacht is finished with a dolphin-blue metallic hull, platinum bootstripe and white superstructure. Sea trials allow the project team to assess the finished vessel as one integrated system rather than as separate machinery, electrical and hotel packages.

Performance is measured against design targets

Testing in open water gives engineers controlled opportunities to measure propulsion, manoeuvring, comfort and system behaviour against the design parameters established during construction. Any differences can then be investigated and fine-tuned before handover.

This phase is especially valuable on a large semi-custom yacht because the platform may be proven while each owner still introduces individual interior and equipment choices. Trials confirm that those elements operate correctly together under realistic loads.

Delivery follows the verification phase

Once trial work and any resulting adjustments are complete, the yacht can move through final documentation and owner handover. Damen Yachting scheduled delivery for the summer cruising season, making the testing window a critical part of the programme.

The trials also add more operational knowledge to the expanding Amels 80 fleet. Each new hull provides data that can be fed back into later yachts while preserving the individual choices made by their owners.
