Digital Yacht's new NAVDoctor Pro earns the 2026 NMEA Technology Award, bringing real-time NMEA 2000 network diagnostics and remote fault analysis to marine installers.

An award for diagnosing the marine data network

Digital Yacht has received the 2026 NMEA Technology Award for NAVDoctor Pro, a new diagnostic tool developed to expose faults in NMEA 2000 networks. The company announced the recognition on 9 October following a preview at the NMEA convention in Dallas, with a formal product presentation planned for METSTRADE in Amsterdam in November.

The new equipment addresses a less visible part of yacht reliability: the data backbone that allows different instruments and technical systems to share information. Navigation displays may appear straightforward at the helm, but an intermittent voltage drop or failed network component can affect readings that several other devices depend upon.

Looking beneath NMEA 2000 messages

NMEA 2000 connects marine instruments over a powered CAN-based network using a backbone, termination resistors and multiple branching device connections. Digital Yacht notes that even comparatively small networks can have numerous individual cable connections exposed to salt air, moisture, temperature variation and movement.

NAVDoctor Pro is built around two network-connected components powered by the bus itself. Its patented NETScope technology measures electrical variations during communications, allowing it to associate particular disturbances with physical network nodes rather than merely reporting that a data message has gone missing.

From electrical traces to a usable fault report

According to the manufacturer, the system decodes device information and parameter group numbers while producing alerts and visual indications of network condition. Users connect a phone, tablet or computer to its built-in Wi-Fi and examine live voltage traces, traffic logs and active NMEA messages through a browser interface.

The technology is intended to help engineers distinguish between a faulty instrument, a marginal connector, inadequate network power and software-level information conflicts. That distinction matters aboard larger yachts, where multiple technical disciplines may share network information and a misleading alarm can lead to unnecessary replacement of expensive equipment.

Remote support and the November demonstration

Digital Yacht also says NAVDoctor Pro works with its Njord Cloud environment and NjordLINK+ gateway, opening the possibility of shore-based troubleshooting when suitable connectivity and access are available. Remote visibility could help an installer decide which test instrument or spare part to bring aboard before a service visit.

The company plans to demonstrate NAVDoctor Pro at METSTRADE 2026, taking place from 17 to 19 November, at stand 1.535. Its prize is a recognition of the diagnostic approach, not evidence that every integration or onboard performance claim has been independently certified; operators should still assess compatibility with their own networks.
