Feadship celebrates three yacht awards at the 2026 ISS gala: Breakthrough takes Yacht of the Year and the largest motor category, while Valor wins the 1,000–3,000GT class.

Three Feadship yacht awards at Fort Lauderdale

Feadship has emerged from the International Superyacht Society's 2026 Design & Leadership Awards with three yacht honours for two very different full-custom motor yachts. At the ceremony on 28 October in Fort Lauderdale, the 118.80-metre Breakthrough was named Yacht of the Year and received the Best in Motor 3,000GT-plus award. The 79.50-metre Valor took Best in Motor 1,000–3,000GT, giving the Dutch builder recognition across two distinct sizes and operating concepts.

The awards were presented at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts as the international yachting community gathered in South Florida for the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. Feadship confirmed the results in its own announcement on 29 October, while the International Superyacht Society identifies the gala as part of its established programme to recognise design and leadership in large-yacht construction. These are completed judging results, not nominations or speculative predictions.

There was also a related design distinction: British studio RWD, responsible for the exterior and interior design of Breakthrough, was named Designer of the Year. That award recognises the studio's contribution separately from the three vessel honours reported by Feadship. Keeping the categories distinct matters because one yacht can receive more than one prize, and a separate professional award should not be counted as an additional yacht-category win.

Breakthrough: the 118.80-metre Yacht of the Year

Breakthrough's overall victory places a particularly ambitious Feadship project at the centre of this year's results. The yacht measures 118.80 metres and is associated with extensive custom engineering, a complex general arrangement and exterior and interior work by RWD. The vessel has previously been recognised at other design and superyacht awards, but the latest ISS result is a separate October 2026 judgement in its own set of categories.

One of Breakthrough's best-known engineering features is her application of cryogenic hydrogen storage and fuel-cell technology. Feadship has described the project as the first superyacht built with a hydrogen fuel-cell system and a hybrid propulsion approach capable of zero-emission operation in relevant modes, particularly when supplying hotel loads. That qualification is important: it should not be presented as a claim that every voyage or operating hour is free of emissions.

What makes the achievement notable is the integration of alternative-energy systems within a yacht intended to meet demanding expectations for guest comfort, range of functions and refined design. A vessel of this size must reconcile engineering space, safety requirements, maintenance access and heavy service demands with generous accommodation. Recognition from a design-awards programme does not independently certify every environmental claim, but it does draw attention to how technical choices influence the finished yacht.

Architecture, circulation and the guest experience

The interior and exterior design work of RWD helps explain why Breakthrough's prize is not merely a referendum on propulsion technology. In earlier descriptions of the yacht, Feadship highlighted circulation planned around the different needs of guests, crew and owners, together with a progression of material finishes through the accommodation. The arrangement aims to support privacy and service without making the experience feel divided into working and leisure areas.

Breakthrough also includes the unusual underwater Nemo lounge, a cinema and a library, features that create very different environments within one hull. Engineering such spaces while maintaining the yacht's structural, stability and operational requirements adds complexity well beyond the appearance of a finished room. The challenge for a custom builder is to deliver those distinctive experiences within a coherent naval architecture rather than bolt a sequence of attractions onto a conventional platform.

The ISS award for motor yachts over 3,000GT recognises a very large-volume class, while Yacht of the Year is a broader accolade. Those distinctions should be read together: the first identifies Breakthrough's success within a defined tonnage group, and the second marks the wider judgement of the awards programme. Neither figure should be confused with vessel length, because gross tonnage measures enclosed volume, not weight or metres.

Valor wins the 1,000–3,000GT motor class

The 79.50-metre Valor represents a substantially different brief, despite sharing Feadship's full-custom background. Feadship has described the yacht as shaped for independent operation in demanding environments, with a strong emphasis on practical capability, durable detailing and a sense of long-term usefulness. Its naval and exterior design is associated with Studio De Voogt, while Bannenberg & Rowell Design handled the interiors.

At the Fort Lauderdale ceremony, Valor won Best in Motor 1,000–3,000GT. The category recognises a different scale of motor yacht from Breakthrough's class, so the result is best understood as a second demonstration of design and engineering range rather than a direct head-to-head comparison. An expedition-minded yacht and a hydrogen-equipped flagship can answer very different owner priorities while both demanding precision from the same group of shipyards and specialists.

Valor had previously received attention for interior design quality, including the character of her staircase and her carefully layered materials. Such qualities do not displace the practical demands of a vessel intended for extensive travel. They illustrate that resilience and usability need not come at the expense of a distinctive interior identity, particularly when the design brief is developed coherently from the outset.

What the 2026 results say about custom superyachts

The International Superyacht Society's awards are specifically concerned with the design, construction and wider leadership of the large-yacht sector, with eligibility starting at 24 metres for its yacht design classes. The 2026 winners therefore provide a useful perspective on the quality and diversity of the current custom fleet, although awards are not a substitute for a technical survey, operational track record or owner assessment.

For prospective owners, the contrast between Breakthrough and Valor points toward a central decision early in any full-custom programme: define the mission before defining the styling. A yacht conceived around advanced energy systems and intricate amenities needs one kind of engineering and space strategy, while an independent long-range vessel needs another. Resolving those priorities before construction is more productive than treating the design as a collection of disconnected luxury features.

Feadship's newly confirmed ISS results are consequently significant on several levels: Breakthrough has received the overall Yacht of the Year distinction and her large-motor-class award, Valor has been recognised within the 1,000–3,000GT group, and RWD has gained the Designer of the Year honour. Taken together, they mark a strong Fort Lauderdale awards night for the Dutch custom builder and its design collaborators, while preserving the different achievements of the two yachts.
