The Fort Lauderdale boat-show organisers have announced RefitX 2027, a new two-day event for yacht refit professionals, with a preview briefing this week.
The Marine Industries Association of South Florida and Informa Markets have announced a new event dedicated to the yacht refit industry. RefitX is scheduled for 27 and 28 October 2027 in Fort Lauderdale, alongside the next edition of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The organisers describe a conference and exhibition intended to bring together people responsible for upgrading, repairing and modernising yachts.
The immediate announcement, dated 27 October 2026, concerns a preview of the event rather than the opening of the 2027 exhibition. A press conference is planned for Friday 30 October during this year’s boat show. Prospective participants can use the briefing to understand the format, but detailed programmes, speaker arrangements and exhibition terms may continue to develop over the next year.
Refit projects are a major part of operating larger yachts. Work can range from cosmetic refreshes and accommodation changes to major machinery replacement or structural improvements. Each category has different implications for planning and shipyard selection. A dedicated professional forum could offer useful discussion of these distinctions if the final programme maintains a practical technical focus.
Organisers identify Phil Purcell of MIASF and Andrew Doole of Informa Markets among the speakers at the planned press briefing. Joel Shine of Derecktor Shipyards and Tim Kershaw of Delta Marine are also listed. The presence of yard and commercial representatives suggests an opportunity to explore the market from both the exhibition and working-refit perspectives.
The announced press conference is set for Friday 30 October 2026 at the Yacht Builders Tent at Bahia Mar Yachting Center, with the main presentation scheduled for 1pm. That is a media briefing within FLIBS, not the opening date of RefitX itself. Industry professionals should confirm access rules and timing directly with the show before arranging travel.
The official programme outline for the new event includes project management, technology, sustainability and workforce questions. It also promises networking and displays involving shipyards, captains, owner representatives, engineers, designers and technical suppliers. These themes are directly relevant to superyachts above twenty-four metres, where refits often involve several disciplines working in a confined and highly regulated setting.
Refit programmes can become difficult when scope changes arrive after systems have been opened or suppliers have committed to an installation sequence. Proper surveys, independent specification review and a documented decision process reduce those risks. The new event could provide a place for owners’ teams and shipyards to exchange practical approaches, though its eventual educational value will depend on speakers and content.
A superyacht’s refit often requires classification input, flag-state compliance checks and careful coordination with commercial charter plans. Upgrading a bridge, propulsion system or guest deck cannot be treated like replacing furnishings in a private home. Crew routines, evacuation arrangements and vessel stability may all be affected, and professional advice is necessary before a work package is approved.
Workforce development is another declared part of the RefitX agenda. Skilled electricians, welders, interior fitters, coatings teams and commissioning engineers often need to work in sequence to avoid rework. A good discussion should examine training and the preservation of craftsmanship as well as commercial opportunities. The organisers have not yet published measurable outcomes for a first edition that is still a year away.
RefitX is scheduled to precede or accompany the early days of the 2027 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The official RefitX information page specifies 27–28 October 2027, while the boat show’s 2027 dates run from 27 to 31 October. Exhibitors and attendees should follow the dedicated event channel for updates rather than assume the same registration rules will apply to both programmes.
Owners planning yard periods in 2027 can take value from the developing discussion without waiting for the exhibition. The first priority remains a complete condition report, agreed scope and a schedule with contingency allowances. A conference may help participants identify contacts and ideas, but it is no substitute for contracted technical diligence on a specific yacht.
The confirmed development is a dedicated new industry platform with published October 2027 dates and an official 2026 preview. Its relevance to large-yacht maintenance is clear, while its commercial scale, exhibitors and results cannot yet be judged. Superyacht Guide will treat future programme announcements as separate updates when their details are made official.
