Dubai commercial shipbuilder Grandweld has launched Grandar Yachts, a dedicated superyacht division targeting steel and aluminium projects measuring 60 metres and above.

Grandweld Shipyards has formally entered the large-yacht new-build market with Grandar Yachts, a dedicated division for steel and aluminium superyachts from 60 metres upward. The first designs are the Grandar 60 and Grandar 65, with construction of the first 60-metre project planned to begin in 2027.

Commercial shipbuilding forms the industrial base

Grandweld plans to adapt engineering platforms and production practices developed across commercial, offshore, naval and support vessels for the superyacht sector. That gives the new division an established heavy-industry base instead of starting with a greenfield yacht-only facility.

The company says yacht-specific expertise will be added through selected UAE and international partners where required. Core fabrication, engineering, project management and delivery control will nevertheless remain under the shipyard's own organisation.

Dubai Maritime City provides large-project capacity

The Grandweld site covers more than 55,000 square metres and includes seven shipbuilding bays, covered production halls, outfitting areas and thirty-one docking berths. Lifting capacity reaches 6,000 tonnes and the facility can accommodate vessels up to 130 metres.

Those dimensions give Grandar room to build the 60- and 65-metre projects while retaining capacity for future growth. The site also supports repair and maintenance, creating a lifecycle service route after a yacht has been delivered.

More than 1,000 specialists already work across the yard

Grandweld employs over 1,000 people across engineering, fabrication and project management. Steel and aluminium fabrication, CNC work, piping, mechanical integration, joinery, electrical systems, automation, air-conditioning, blasting and painting are all handled within the wider industrial operation.

That breadth is important when moving into custom superyachts because owners expect tight integration between structure, machinery, interiors and technical systems. The challenge will be translating commercial-vessel discipline into the finish quality and customisation demanded by private clients.

Grandar expands Dubai's superyacht-building ambitions

Grandweld has built more than one hundred aluminium vessels and over forty-seven steel vessels since its establishment in 1984. The new division extends that experience into a regional market already growing in marina capacity, refit, management, brokerage and charter services.

The first Grandar 60 will therefore be an important proof point for the strategy. If the yard can combine industrial scale with superyacht detailing, Dubai gains another builder capable of competing for large international projects rather than only servicing visiting yachts.
