Heesen has appointed Captain Mike Rouse as Strategic Advisor, bringing operational and owner-representative experience into product development.
Heesen has appointed Captain Mike Rouse as Strategic Advisor, adding senior command and owner-representative experience to its technical organisation. Rouse has worked across large-yacht operations, new-build programmes and major refits at Northern European yards.
The position is intended to create a more direct bridge between what crews learn at sea and the decisions made during design and engineering. Heesen says that input can improve technical spaces, crew flow and long-range capability before construction reaches a stage where changes become expensive.
Rouse will advise the board and Heesen’s technical departments on emerging technologies, quality standards and practical operational requirements. His remit also includes identifying supplier partnerships that can improve reliability across onboard systems.
The role extends into Heesen’s in-house interior business, where Rouse will advise on the relationship between high-concept design and long-term maritime durability. That gives the yard another operational perspective when materials and layouts are being finalised.
Heesen says many differences between a good yacht and an exceptional one only become clear after long periods in service. Bringing a captain’s experience into the earliest design phases is intended to capture those lessons before a new yacht reaches the water.
The appointment forms part of a wider effort to integrate technical development, client expectations and real operating experience. For owners, the practical test will be whether future yachts are easier to operate, maintain and adapt over years of use.
