The new 40.27-metre Ocean Alexander 40P makes its world debut at Fort Lauderdale, becoming the flagship of the completed three-model Puro family.

Puro receives a 40-metre flagship

The Ocean Alexander 40P is making its world debut at the 2026 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, where the yard is showcasing the Puro series. In March, the builder said the 30P and 40P would appear for the first time at the autumn event. Their introduction completes a planned trio together with the previously established 35P.

At 40.27 metres overall, the 40P changes the scale of the conversation. It is intended for owners who need the capabilities and guest volumes of a professionally crewed superyacht, yet favour the coordinated design of a defined model series. Its debut provides the first public opportunity to judge those ambitions in a completed flagship context.

The dimensions of a substantial vessel

Ocean Alexander reports a maximum length of 40.27 metres and beam of 8.59 metres. The waterline length is 38.01 metres, with an approximate draft of 1.97 metres. At 357 GT and a stated approximate displacement of 220,000 kilograms, the vessel offers materially greater interior volume than its 31.58-metre sister model.

The figures also have operational implications. An owner should not assume that every marina accepting a 40-metre berth can provide the required beam clearance, electrical services or manoeuvring room. The ability to use smaller harbours, anchorages and servicing facilities should be reviewed route by route, particularly for a yacht intended to cruise widely rather than remain in one seasonal home port.

Italian design with naval architecture input

Giorgio M. Cassetta designed the 40P, working with Andrea Agrusta of NavalHEAD on the project’s naval architecture. The builder emphasises sculpted surfaces and large spaces for entertaining as elements of a design intended to avoid narrowly regional styling. The exterior expression is presented as part of the Puro family but also as the strongest expression of that range.

For owners, elegance and functionality must ultimately reinforce each other. The placement of dining areas, shaded open decks and quiet retreats should suit the planned pattern of family life or entertaining. A yacht that hosts large groups for an afternoon may need a different service arrangement from one carrying a small party on long transits, even when the external silhouette is identical.

Fuel, generators and propulsion capacity

Standard power comprises twin MAN V16 engines, each rated at 2,600 horsepower according to Ocean Alexander. Fuel capacity is stated at 30,300 litres, supported by 4,610 litres of freshwater and twin Kohler generators rated at 99 kilowatts. These are substantial installations, requiring a correspondingly serious maintenance and spare-parts plan.

No reliable cruising range can be calculated from tank capacity alone. Speed, draught, auxiliary systems and reserve requirements all change real consumption. A captain and engineer should establish passage-specific estimates from measured data, rather than extrapolate from advertising. The yacht’s published fuel storage suggests capacity for substantial voyages but does not remove the need for disciplined planning.

How it compares with the new 30P

The larger vessel has a beam 1.29 metres wider than the 30P and a published tonnage of 357 GT against 225 GT. Fuel storage is more than twice as large, although the engines and displacement are also considerably greater. These differences should be viewed as an integrated design choice rather than a claim that the 40P automatically offers twice the autonomy.

For the same owner, extra space may improve crew separation, guest privacy and the ability to carry specialist equipment. It may also increase berth charges, staffing requirements and annual service expenditure. Fort Lauderdale gives buyers the rare chance to see how two newly introduced models within the same design family address those trade-offs in person.

What the launch establishes

The 40P’s world debut brings Ocean Alexander’s current largest Puro to a public show rather than remaining solely a published drawing and specification. Its size places it firmly in the superyacht category, while its standardised family identity offers an alternative to a fully one-off commission. The design could appeal to buyers seeking a recognisable platform with room for individual finish choices.

An informed decision requires technical drawings, details of class and flag compliance, shore-support arrangements and a transparent account of what is standard versus optional. Independent inspection and a proper sea trial should follow any positive show visit. The significance of the 40P at Fort Lauderdale is clear, but practical evidence remains the final test of its appeal.
