Royal Huisman hosted a Kidsday and journalist visit around World Boating Day, opening its Vollenhove shipyard to families and broader audiences.
Royal Huisman marked World Boating Day with a Kidsday for children and grandchildren of employees at its Vollenhove shipyard. The event was designed to make yacht building more accessible to people who normally see only the finished vessels.
A separate visit brought international journalists through the Dutch yachting sector as part of a programme involving seven major shipyards. Both activities focused on the people, skills and industrial processes behind the industry.
Children of yard workers often know that relatives build yachts without seeing how the different trades fit together. A dedicated visit gives families a clearer view of the engineering, fabrication and craft work involved in a custom project.
For the yard, that connection also reinforces workforce pride and helps younger generations understand the range of maritime careers available. Large yachts depend on far more than naval architecture, including electrical, interior, metalwork and project-management skills.
World Boating Day was created to broaden public understanding of boating and marine industries. Shipyards increasingly use such programmes to explain technical careers and the economic ecosystem around yacht construction.
Royal Huisman’s participation therefore serves both community and recruitment goals. Opening the yard can help demystify an industry that often appears highly exclusive from the outside while showing the depth of ordinary technical work behind each yacht.
