The International SeaKeepers Society will honour Christina Lotter as 2026 SeaKeeper of the Year and marine scientist Shelby Thomas with its NextGen Award.

SeaKeepers selects two conservation leaders for Founders 2026

The International SeaKeepers Society will recognise Christina Lotter as its 2026 SeaKeeper of the Year and marine scientist Shelby Thomas with the NextGen Award. The honours will be presented during the organisation’s Founders 2026 gala on 29 October.

Lotter is being recognised for 15 years of leadership and support for SeaKeepers, including work to expand the organisation internationally. Her background also includes ownership of Danish Yachts and involvement in a range of charitable and investment activities.

Thomas brings reef restoration and marine science into focus

Shelby Thomas holds advanced qualifications in marine ecology and fisheries science and founded Ocean Rescue Alliance International. Her work has combined habitat restoration, research and public engagement through artificial reefs and underwater installations.

SeaKeepers and Thomas first collaborated in 2023 on a research dive to assess new reef structures. The relationship has since expanded through further monitoring and research expeditions supporting coral and habitat work.

Yachts remain central to the organisation’s science model

SeaKeepers’ Discovery Fleet connects yacht owners with scientists, educators and conservation projects by making vessels available for research, citizen science and outreach. That approach allows privately operated yachts to contribute platform time and geographic access that can be difficult or expensive for research organisations to secure independently.

The Founders gala raises funding for programmes across several regions while recognising people who connect yachting with marine conservation. This year’s awards continue that theme by pairing long-term philanthropic leadership with hands-on scientific restoration work.
