Strategic Marine has entered the superyacht sector with a 42-metre aluminium support vessel developed with Southerly Designs and MAG Subsea for expedition operations.
Strategic Marine is extending its commercial aluminium-vessel expertise into the superyacht market with a 42-metre support vessel based on the yard's Gen 4 platform. The project has been developed with naval architect Southerly Designs and maritime-solutions specialist MAG Subsea for owners pursuing more equipment-intensive cruising.
Strategic Marine is known for high-performance aluminium workboats, and the yacht support project uses a 42-metre Gen 4 design as its foundation. That gives the new vessel an engineering starting point shaped by utility, payload and operating reliability rather than by guest accommodation alone.
Adapting commercial DNA to a superyacht support role can be effective because chase and shadow vessels are expected to carry equipment, crew and specialist machinery in demanding conditions. The finish and noise requirements nevertheless need to rise to match the expectations of a private-yacht operation.
The design provides more than 140 square metres of working deck area together with crane and lifting capability. That allows the support vessel to carry tenders, submersibles, dive equipment, motorcycles or other equipment that would consume valuable guest space aboard the mothership.
Separating heavy toys and operational gear from the primary yacht can also improve safety and deck flow. It gives owners more freedom to change equipment between seasons without redesigning the principal yacht around every new activity.
Southerly Designs brought naval-architecture experience, Strategic Marine contributed aluminium shipbuilding expertise and MAG Subsea added integrated maritime-operational knowledge from the Asia-Pacific region. The collaboration was intended to balance distinctive styling with practical support-vessel requirements.
That mix is important because a support vessel has to work as a coherent part of the owner's programme rather than as an independent commercial craft. Speed, range, launch systems and crew workflow all need to align with the movements of the main yacht.
Strategic Marine links the project to changing owner preferences toward adventure, experiential travel and more environmentally and socially conscious use of yachts. Those trends can increase demand for capable support craft because remote itineraries often require more equipment and operational redundancy.
The new vessel gives Strategic Marine a route into luxury yachting without abandoning the construction techniques it already understands. Its success will depend on whether superyacht clients value that commercial robustness and whether the yard can deliver the refinement expected alongside it.
