Anschütz and Teledyne SevenCs Partner on S-100 Navigation Data

Two navigation specialists align

Anschütz has announced a partnership with Teledyne SevenCs to prepare integrated bridge systems for the IHO S-100 data framework. The companies are combining work in navigation-system integration and hydrographic software.

The August announcement reflects an industry transition from relying mainly on electronic chart layers towards richer operational datasets. It is a supplier partnership rather than evidence that every yacht bridge already runs a full S-100 service.

More than a new chart format

S-100 supports a broader collection of navigational information, including detailed bathymetry, water levels and surface-current data. Presenting those sources alongside ship sensors can help a bridge team interpret changing conditions.

The challenge is to make additional data understandable without overwhelming the operator. Information must be available, current and compatible with the equipment installed on a particular vessel.

How SYNAPSIS is involved

Anschütz is integrating SevenCs hydrographic capabilities with its SYNAPSIS ECDIS NX and WECDIS NX environment. The intended result is a coherent presentation of navigational information rather than a set of disconnected data feeds.

A yacht considering a bridge refit should check the supported S-100 datasets, installation requirements and class obligations for its own equipment. A generic software announcement does not replace a commissioned system design.

A transition to plan for

The next generation of charting affects suppliers, installers, crew training and shore-side data services. Yacht managers may need to plan the order in which hardware, licensing and procedures are updated.

The two companies’ official release and ECDIS-specific image document the cooperation. Independent certification, equipment approval and current data coverage must be verified separately.
