Trieste Shipyards has presented plans for a new megayacht construction, refit and storage operation in the Industrial Port of Trieste.

A new company named Trieste Shipyards is targeting the construction, maintenance and storage market for luxury yachts over 30 metres, with particular emphasis on megayachts above 50 metres. The project is backed by Seadock, Yachting Expertise and regional holding company Friulia.

The site is designed for yachts up to 80 metres

The planned facility sits on Seadock premises along Trieste's Industrial Canal and is being designed to handle yachts up to 80 metres. The business intends to combine new construction with maintenance, conversion, upgrade and winter storage work.

That mixed model can help balance yard utilisation because refit and storage demand do not follow exactly the same cycle as new-build construction. It also gives owners a route to keep technical support with the same industrial group after delivery.

A 25-metre-high hangar forms part of phase one

The first phase includes a new building beside the existing Seadock operation, with about 6,000 square metres of area and a 3,000-square-metre hangar rising twenty-five metres. The space is intended to support simultaneous construction of two yachts around 55 metres.

Complete production is planned from sheet-metal cutting through final outfitting. That gives the yard control over structural work and later integration rather than limiting the facility to assembly of modules built elsewhere.

A €4.3m capital increase accelerated the project

Friulia's participation follows a €4.3 million capital increase approved in July 2026 together with private shareholders. The company says the funding supports the construction programme and development of a regional supply chain around high-end yacht building.

Local suppliers will be important if the yard is to compete effectively with established Italian clusters. Trieste already has logistics, shipping and heavy-lift expertise, but custom megayachts also require specialised interior, systems and finishing capabilities.

Existing maritime businesses provide the operating base

Seadock contributes handling equipment, space and logistics, while Yachting Expertise adds technical, management and commercial knowledge. CNB will continue using parts of the site for yacht construction and is also expected to act as a commercial partner.

The project therefore builds on active maritime infrastructure instead of starting from an empty site. The next milestones will be construction of the first facilities, confirmed yacht contracts and evidence that the regional supplier network can support the promised scale.
